Good weekend sorta. Was able to ride both Saturday and Sunday.

Saturday was a bit of a shakedown thing, as I'd finally installed a few farkles

that I'd accumulated over the last month or so.

Not much of a farkler,

Farkles.jpg

but I'd finally decided that I could use a bit more comfort and convenience.

First, I installed my GIVI trunk rack. I had the trunk from a "previous" FJR.

Actually, a trunk on a motorcycle isn't really a farkle.

It's luggage.

Also installed a Heli-Bar triple clamp, techmount stem mount, Garmin 2730, Beemer grips,

and a Madco throttle lock.

Reckon I'm pretty much set for now.

Well with the weather being especially mild, I thought maybe it would be neat to ride

up into the snow and mess around.

But my camera was in the shop, it had gotten late, and instead I decided to

just run a bit out of town and see how the

new accessories worked.

Just before I departed, Dr. Rich showed up on his cruiser, wanting to go bar hopping.

He'd bought new riding gear, and wanted to "trot it by the local girls."

I told him I'd already made plans.

"Call HYCLE," I suggested. "He'll just adore that jacket."

"Well, I just WILL then," he pouted, riding off.

But seriously folks.

Grabbed my teenie-weenie back-up camera and hit the road.

First stop was juice for me and the Feej.

Then out into the countryside. Things look a bit more barren in January.

102_4975.jpg

Ended up on 49 and rode it north to Placerville. Traffic was very light.

102_4977.jpg

Stopped in Diamond Springs.

Wow. Profound stuff. Jack Handy?

102_4980.jpg

Popped in here for a buncha drinkin' with the boys.

Motorcycles and liquor. Peas and carrots.

102_4981.jpg

Then home.

Sunday looked promising.

Saw a post from skuehl about a possible Yosemite run.

Considered it.

It would mean a VERY early start in the cold, and well, I'm "C - B - A, All the Way." ;)

The next morning, I got up late and ended up entertaining unexpected company, so Yosemite was out.

Up good ol' Hwy. 50 to look at some snow? Boring? Easy? Good idea. Hope I don't get any on me.

Bust going to church.

Well, I got a James Burleigh start,

IMG_0004.jpg

and zoomed up to Placerville for gas. That Buttercup Pantry place has very good pie.

Especially the blueberry. With ice cream. For those who like pie.

IMG_0008.jpg

Undaunted by the icy mountain air, I pressed on.

Pulled in here for a minute. First encounter. Parked right up near it.

IMG_0019.jpg

Had just jumped over that pile of it there.

IMG_0020.jpg

IMG_0023.jpg

I must be nuts, coming up here on a bike.

IMG_0024.jpg

IMG_0026.jpg

IMG_0034.jpg

And just over the pass.

IMG_0036-1.jpg

There's Lake Tahoe out there. I stopped here, took a few piccies,

and headed back west. Traffic in South Lake Tahoe on a

holiday weekend is an unpleasant experience. Don't want any of those.

IMG_0046-1.jpg

A few more snaps on the way down.

IMG_0054.jpg

IMG_0059.jpg

And into the valley and the afternoon sun.

IMG_0070.jpg

I often stop here hoping to catch rogdeb doing the coffee thing. Missed them today.

IMG_0077.jpg

So I grabbed something to soak up the evening beers. NEVER read that nutrition label.

IMG_0081.jpg

Thassit. No real adventure. Just a little ride.

Oh. Here's the picture of my moose.

IMG_0001.jpg

And here are a few VERY crude, poorly done photo stitchings. Posting them anyway.

fun post ol' man.

Poor Reds, Man-0-Man the stories I could tell from visits to that place in years past. Too incriminating though, so I won't.

Kathy and I always threaten to go down there, as it's been quite a while since we've allowed ourselves to get violated on their gold Cadillacs

-instead last many tiems we've ended up downtown at Zelda's instead. (our favorite) One of these times we'll do Poor Red's again, that place is a foothill icon.

I was at the lake on Saturday ...but approached it from a different angle than you ....and like you just dabbled and turned back. Sure was beautiful.

thanks for sharing your ride Ancient Michael ....ping me next time you head this way you pole gazer.

Wow you pups are getting old. Did you post this up on yer blog so yer grandkids to see it too, Ol'mike?

Amen, John. Poor Reds - awesome. No one really knows what the food tastes like because after a six pack of Golden Cadillacs, who the hell cares. Are they still giving out silver dollars and Kennedy fifty-cent pieces in change? I'd be stunned.

And Lover's Leap - I climbed that back when I was younger, thinner, healthier and stupider. Loved that area and spent a LOT of time there. Used to live up in the Seirra Foothills.

Great pics. Deeply jealous.

By the way, you guys ever try that road down to Chili Bar and up to Garden Valley from there? Talk about the twisties, wow. I've never done it on a bike, but all those roads in the 49 corridor are amazing. Wish I were out there now.
