Senior Database Administrator
The Senior Database Administrator serves as a member of the Information Technology Team, with primary responsibility for the SQL database environment. This environment includes both Microsoft SQL Server and MySQL implementations.
The senior database administrator will install, configure and administer SQL Server 2000 and 2005 databases on Windows 2003 Enterprise servers (32bit and 64bit) in a high availability environment. Qualified candidates will have deep experience using advanced features of SQL Server including trace flags, blocking issue resolution, performance tuning, and will have directly managed and administered large databases (300GB+) with hundreds of millions of rows.
• This is a senior level hands-on technical position, working under the direction and supervision of the CIO and in conjunction with the development and infrastructure teams.
• Install, configure, and maintain Microsoft SQL Server 2000 and 2005 databases (32 bit and 64 bit) in a high-availability architecture.
• Perform data modeling in conjunction with the development team and business analysts.
• Create, monitor, and test SQL backup plans.
• Design and manage database security.
• Create, tune, and optimize stored procedures.
• Create, tune, and optimize DTS packages.
• Tune SQL performance at both the infrastructure and index / query levels.
• Create or modify reports using Microsoft SQL Reporting Services and Crystal Reports/Business Objects.
Qualified candidate must have:
• Expert-level transact sql skills, including, coding, debugging, and performance tuning of complex stored procedures.
• Significant expertise in designing, building, and maintaining transactional replication in large multi-server production environments.
• Significant expertise in designing and building automation modules and scripts for backup, archival, ETL, and cleanup tasks.
• Deep expertise with SQL fault tolerance, high availability, and security.
• Significant experience with SQL 2000 / 2005 in a production SAN environment containing high transaction rate, large (300GB+) databases. Partitioning, filegroup optimization, data mirroring, log shipping, and cluster expertise are required.
• Expertise with tuning hardware/SQL 2000/2005/Windows Server 2003 (32 bit and 64 bit) for optimal SQL performance.
• Full software development life cycle experience.
• Outstanding interpersonal skills.
• Excellent troubleshooting skills.
• Must be detail oriented, with the ability and drive to see complex tasks to completion under minimum supervision.
• Ability to provide effective written and verbal communications to both technical and non-technical persons.
• Ability to maintain a positive attitude and professional appearance at all times.
• Proven ability to successfully prioritize and manage multiple tasks.
• Ability to work after hours or on-call as required.
• Must be able to pass a criminal background investigation.
• Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds unassisted.
• Must pass a detailed technical interview.
Desired Skills:
• Knowledge of one or more scripting languages (perl, powershell, etc.)
• Knowledge of one of more programming languages (C#, C++, VB.NET)
• Experience with Microsoft .NET architecture
• Experience with Great Plains and Accounting in general is a plus.
Education:
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from an accredited institution or comparable experience.
• Industry certifications such as MCDBA are preferred.
Experience:
• 5+ years progressively responsible experience working in technology.
• 5+ years of solid experience working as a Microsoft SQL DBA at the medium to large enterprise level, at least 6 months of which must have been spent working with SQL 2005 in a high-availability environment.
