Since I'm apparently the anti-christ for owning a Magellan GPS, I'm really hoping I can get the waypoint/POI info so that I CAN try to build the routes on my unit.
Hopefully, I can and it won't be too painful.
Jmarran,

PM me with the file format you require. I am using POIConverter on the original S&T files. Perhaps I can provide you with a suitable route file for your GPS.

Jeff
Jeff,

Thank you for doing this for me. I haven't tried doing it yet (I just got the unit in early August), but I checked with the POS POI software that Magellan included - fingers crossed.

Here some of the file formats it lists when I do a save-as:

.MGLN, .WPT, .RTE, .GPX and .XML.

I'm not as strong/skilled as a rider as most that will be there, so I learned I'm usually happier at the back so I can stay at least near my comfort zone and not worry about spoiling the ride for anyone behind me.

Lee, I might be misreading your post in some way... but GPS routes are already set up. All that you'll need to do is download them to your unit. If in the process of inputting this info, you may want to stop.
Heidi

Heidi,

I do not see where the GPS routes are posted. Am I missing something here? I'd sure like to get them in my GPS. Also looking forward to doing one or more of these ride with you Heidi :yahoo: , as wild man Dave will not be with me this year, in fact none of the bunch I was with last year will be coming.
Ohio, I just plotted/duplicated the routes on to my MapSourse program and downloaded them to the GPS. :glare:

I did the same thing.... sort of.... I printed off the maps that where posted and plotted them in my Mapsource program.

I just mapped EOM 1, 4, and 5 I figure they are the ones I most likely ride. If I do go out with someone elses route I can just follow along. Never have gotten lost... misplaced a couple of times.

Hi Rick, the .GPX files are done. They have not been posted, yet. They are in Travis's hands. I am waiting, as are all of you, for them to be posted.

I see some excitement here... but remember, we are a week 1/2 out from the meet. Everything will be available soon, ok?

And, about you guys that plotted your own route in Mapsource... why? And are you sure you got all of the right roads? There are a lot of turns in little po' dunk towns.

Well you might be right but I figure as long as I come out of town in the right direction to the right road.... what does it matter what goes on in town. What happens in town stays in town... right?

Well, if you put it that way Tom. Whatever floats your boat, I suppose.

So when will these alleged GPX files (and ST files) be posted?

I'd prefer to not reinvent the wheel either :)

I can certainly host em and post em if you're looking for space or something.

Renegade, that is probably a better question for Travis. He's in the process of moving to Washington State from TN. He is the person taking care of posting onto the website. I do not have web access to the site. Thank you for the offer to do the hosting for these. I do not want to get this information too spread around. It seems that there are some that are already confused as to where to find what.

If it comes down to that, I will definitely contact you directly for more information.

Also, may I remind everyone that there is 12 days to the very start of the meet. For those arriving on Thursday, it's only 11 days, but still, that is plenty of time to get the .gpx routes up & distributed.

I realize that there are excited individuals. I'm excited about this event, too. For anyone that hasn't partaken in planning a large event like this, there has been a lot of fenagling & work from a small group of us to get this up and running properly. There is an individual who has taken the time & made the effort to make all mapping & GPS files. The kink has been with the directional text documents. All of the other things are done & will be posted promptly. How promptly I cannot say. I am again asking for some patience from people.

I have a suggested change to EOM-3. Going south on rt #16 from Tazewell, Va, instead of turning up I81 why not continue south on rt #16 to Mouth of Wilson and turn west onto rt #58 over to Damascus? This section of 58 is not only senic, but has some of the most technical riding around. From Damascus head north on rt #91, (very different senery) and back to Tazewell. If time permits take a side trip south from Damascus on rt #133 and visit Shady Valley, or just travel a couple miles south from town and see the worlds shortest tunnel at the state park, (forget the name.) Just another idea.

BUT.... Some of us are lucky enough to be leaving home loooong before then. Ummm, I'm leavin' out Wed. morning the 5th for NW Arkansas and only plan to swing by home long enough to do laundry before leaving for Lewisburg. Sooo, the sooner the better would be much, much appeciated. Oh, and as long as I'm beggin', .gdb files are preffered. :)

Having said that, even if they're not posted "on time", I'll just download them from a PC/laptop at the hotel when I get there. All is good.

Aero, that might be your best option. I am very sorry that we cannot tend to everyones needs on a specific individual's time schedule. I am making the assumption that the routes will be up within a day or so.

The best I can tell you... bring your download cord with you.

Again people, I am asking for your patience.

fjr vfr, the name of that shortest bridge on Rte 133 is Backbone Bridge.

Also, thanks for the suggestion but there are no planned changes to any of the routing. There was a lot taken into consideration when Jim planned these routes & mileage was one of the largest considerations. Of course, anyone that attends is not forces to ride the planned routes. If you care to go that way, then by all means you are encouraged to plan it that way.

In case Travis has difficulty, I'll check into establishing some basic FTP site for downloading the files. I'll probably just stick them on one of my FTP servers and leave it open for read-only. Should be able to get that done by Tue morning at the latest.

The delay is not Travis or Heidi's fault, it's mine for taking so long to do the route files. I should have completed them BEFORE I went to WFO.

Jeff, Heidi and anyone else who is working on this...... Thank you for all your efforts. Everyone is excited about this event and I am sure no one is putting any pressure to make this happen sooner. Take yur time and let us know when and where the files are posted. :yahoo:

That is no doubt a good route, however, you are looking at 450 to 500 miles and 10-12 hours and IIRC the section of 91 over the mountain is dirt - good dirt - but nonetheless dirt for about 10 miles or so. Have fun though, kick up a gravel or two for me!

EOM 3 does not travel I-81 btw, it parallels it on Rt 11.

All the suggested EOM routes (except # 6, ride and repeat twisties) are around 300 miles by design.

Really Rick? That is the distinct feeling that I am getting. What these individuals aren't realizing is how much time and effort has been put into these routes to make the directions correct. Jeff, Jim & I have spent way more time on this than we'd care to admit. Jim & Jeff, more than me & I've spend a considerable amount of time & effort. THe GPS individuals are going to be sitting pretty. We are trying to keep the people without GPS from getting lost. The directions that come out of Mapsource or Streets & Trips are inadequate for what we are doing. Cutting it to bare bones was necessary & that is what we did. Everyone will have 1 map & 1 sheet text directions for each route. That has been our goal.

None of us are asking for thanks. Really, we're excited about the meet, too. What we are asking for is patience... which seems to be lacking.

Patience everybody...these people are doing an incredible amount of work.

Lets help them have a good time at this EOM...they should NOT have to buy any drinks that weekend. :clapping: :clapping:

Thanks guys!! :yahoo: :yahoo:
