I want to upgrade the suspension on my gen3.

Who's the best USA supplier (price and support) for Ohlins shocks ?

Which Ohlins model did you select ? YA707 ?

I'm also considering upgrading the front springs.

Has anyone replaced the stock springs on a gen3 ?

If so, what springs did you select ?

Thanks for information.

If you plan on installing yourself you have more options. On my 09 I went with GP Suspension located in Auburn Wa. They have a good reputation and being 15 miles home made my choice easy. I had them do all the work.

On the east coast lots of folks use Traxxion Dynamics.

If you update the rear shock you will need to make sure the front and rear are balanced. I suggest a fork spring replacement.

Although I have been riding for 40+ years I have no experience with suspension so getting a pro shop's help was well worth the expense for me to get it set up properly.

I bought from JC Motors at a good price.

Good service and postage to Australia.

I ordered it with a a slightly heaver spring rate, -59 spring,(857 lbs/inch)

If you have the time and want to go for a ride give either Cogent Dynamics or Traxxion a call and see if you can arrange for a ride-in to get the bike upgraded. Given where you are it will take two days to get there, a day for either shop to change out the components and then 2 days back home.

The big advantage to a ride-in over just buying the components and doing it yourself is that you will have a suspension specialist set up the sag correctly for your weight and then dial in the compression and rebound to get you in the ballpark on the settings. Both of the shops I have mentioned have experience with setting up aftermarket suspensions for the FJR. Make sure they give you the oil level in the forks, all the sag readings, and the compression & rebound clicker settings for your records.

The one thing no one to my knowledge has figured out is the new fork valving. In the new Gen III all the valving is done in the one fork leg whereas with the Gen I & II the valving was the more conventional layout with valving in both fork legs. The current aftermarket suspension companies we have mentioned use either the Ohlin AK20 or AK25 fork valving kits. With the change in the forks for the Gen III it might be worth giving Ohlins USA in Hendersonville, NC a call and see what they recommend.

I got my shock done at Cogent Dynamics in Fletcher, NC. I had a drive-in appt to install a YA707 which took about 2hrs including the setup. Great people. They also do front forks and now have a 20mm cartridge which is considerably cheaper than the 25mm Ohlin offered before. I paid $968 for the shock and $150 for 2 hours labour.

Is GP still in business? I've read high praise for them on here but thought I recall a thread about them closing up shop. Maybe it was another shop I'm thinking of.

KFG Racing in Auburn Washington, well respected suspension specialists, bought GP Suspension last year. You can get GP components thru KFG.

The GP/Penske set up is great. Now the FJR is planted to the road, no more wallowing around. Yes!

kyleusa.com is one of the biggest Ohlins dealers in the country. Pretty much GB prices all the time. HTH
