With the Rhodyrally coming up next weekend and having no desire to haul around a polaroid camera that is the size and weight of a small car, would it be possible for me to use one of these gizmos to transfer my digital images from an XD picture card to the rallymasters computer? He has an 8 in 1 card reader but the XD cards aren't listed.

If there was an 8 year old kid around to ask I would but there isn't so I figured one of you old farts might know

From a strictly technical perspective, yes that would work.

HOWEVER...

I don't know what the rules are for that particular rally...but I doubt it. Part of the idea behind the Polaroid is that you can't PhotoShop the pics and cheat.

They are allowing digital cameras to be used so I think I should be fine....

Excellent if it does work. I suppose for $10.00 its worth the gamble.

Great! If that is indeed the case you should be fine (assuming that the computer the rally master is using has the following:

1. USB port (duh)

2. The OS that the RM is using must have the drivers for that device available in order for that device to successfully install on his computer. (Most common USB devices are no problem, but it may be worth checking BEFORE the rally to be certain that whatever OS he's using can recognize your new usb card reader).

Looks interesting. So the XD card plugs into the converter doohickey and that in turn plugs into the USB port of the PC.

Does the camera produce jpg images or does the converter convert to jpg?

Does it need batteries or get it's energy through the USB port?

The camera will store the images as JPG's.

The USB card reader gets its power from the USB port.

Hey, this thing works pretty good!

$12.00 at Rat Shack. Just as you said Gun, plugs right in and you can pull the pics right up. I think I'm all set.....Thanks for the help!

Even if the rallymasters computer won't accept it, I'm sure my good friend GEEZER will allow me to pop it into his notebook computer for viewing....right GEEZER?
