Word on the street is one of our own (cough: Iggy) took the 24 hour event this year. :assassin:
That would be (cough) true. It was a close finish between Meese and I.....with me on top this time. I usually say, "That guy is a machine.", but since I edged him out...I guess I'm the Hoover this time. 90357 to 89291 is close. I made a slightly risky, but good choice to snag some bonuses by Snowville early in the rally that edged out his choice to go to Elko towards the end of the rally. I've been nipping at his heals pushing him to be better...and he's been pushing me to be better. It was a very safe and smart ride for me. :)

Nielson, Mutchler, and Westendorf finished 3, 4, and 5 in the 24 hour.

Keep an eye on the two-up couple of Bergmann/Good. They bagged 79401 points for their first two-up rally! I think they've got what it takes to be a great two-up team.

As for 3 day--Rod Schween won that event. He's up and coming and credits folks that have done blogs and written ride reports as his inspiration. Can't remember 2nd, but do remember 3rd as Don Beaton? He did well in the Cal 24.

Finally, I think the folks in the 12 hour rally had the most fun. Brian Roberts said it was the most fun rally he had done in years.

And Steve announced next year would be the last Utah 1088 and "we're going out with a bang."

So, anybody thinking about riding the Utah 1088 or ever rode the 1088......2013 YOU should ride.

Congrats, Matt!!!

Glad to hear Jon and Ande did well. May have been their first 1088, but definitely not their first 2 up rally! They used to live out here, known them for a while. Very nice people. Ande is quite the Navy lady. Jon's okay, but Ande is a badass! ;)

I was a bit focused on my own task....and didn't get all those details exactly right. Your version is much better. Thank you. :)

And yes...Ande's a serious badass that's also very personable. Anybody that commands this is a force to be reckoned with.

Congrats on the win Matt!

Don Beaton placed around 7th in the 3 day. 3rd in the 3 day was Phil O'Conner (I think I got the last name right)

Me thinks I should just wait until Steve publishes the results and quit screwing things up. :)

I also want to personally congratulate my good friend Matt. He was rode a smokin rally. I placed 10th in my second rally and was very pleased with my results. In order to compare; Matt rode 400 more miles than I did and got twice the points I did in the same period of time. Absolutely amazing. I am playing the woulda coulda shoulda game as Matt suggested and I have figured out where I screwed up. I admit that the waiting an hour for the second checkpoint to open really screwed my plans to run to Ely. But with a mandatory checkpoint there isnt a lot you can do. Matt and "company" ran an alternate route and were not locked into the second checkpoint. I will take that into serious consideration next time. I really just wanted to get some more rally experience before running toward the big dog routes. I felt much more comfortable during this rally and was excited to feel like I knew what I was doing. Watching Matt and Ken run was a hoot. It is something to aspire to. Once again I want to send Kudo's to Matt and all the others that ran that blistering run to Vegas!! Great Job!! Squeal.
