Re throttlemeister, I've had these handguards on my 03 since they came out and have no problem with the throttlemeister integration on either bar end. I just trimmed the circle to fit properly between the grip and barend. I never take them off.
I just installed the V-Strom guards a week ago on my '09 AE, using the FJRTech articles. Had no issue with anything until I realized that I had a virtual throttle lock on the right grip. It was getting dark when I finished tightening up things and didn't realize that the bar end forced the end of the guard against the grip preventing the throttle from moving freely. I put three small washers on the bar-end bolt and retightened it. End of problem. Not sure why no one else has ever mentioned this issue.

That's a good workaround! Will do that when I get mine handguards here soon.

Nice write-up! I also have the guards and leave them on year round. One of the best additions to my bike yet. They don't look the greatest but sure work well.

^^^A person from another continent and hemisphere answers my question. :yahoo:

Udjeni - Thank you very much. That did the trick in answering my question. ;)

Yes , Im having an issue with the throttle grip and the end of the hand guards too. Also the bolt on the right side seems to be a quarter in to long. Are the bolts supposeed to be the same length? Both of mine are the same size.

I think they're same size in the kit you get. Mine sticks out same amount -- pretty annoying but I'm guessing it because it's meant for another bike.

I've been using mine for a while and that extra length on the right bolt is not a problem.

Alrighty then, I guess I'll go back to the garage and remove alittle more to make room for my Breakaway throttle lock. Thanks for the reply Dennis

Dont know if anyone has tried to install these handguards in conjuction with a Breakaway Cruise control. I just finished installing mine. I ended up having to heat the side of the guard in two different places to make two angled bends. Did one bend ,then let it cool then did the last one. Just have to be careful not to blister the plastic. I turned out very nice just takes alittle more time. Wasnt sure what it would look like but you cant tell that I change the shape on one side. Very pleased with the finished product. I took her out today in 38 degrees weather and was happy I put them on. I dont have heated grips but my hands wern't cold. :yahoo:

Folks, resurrecting this thread. Have a Gen I FJR and just purchased the handguards in anticipation of the cold rainy riding season in the PNW.

Some people are simply zip tying the handguards on and some are buying bolts, nuts and washers and installing.

Been to this great website:
https://www.fjrtech.net/getdbitem.cfm?item=30

Can they been attached with zip ties?

Looking at the pic above, I had these on my 03 and the bolt snugged in all the way.

On my 18, the bolt is sitting as shown above.

Can a shorter bolt be ordered thats suits the Gen IIIs better?

* These guards rock *

I believe you can get shorter or longer bolts at the hardware shop.
