I am hooking up my new Autocom and am needing some info.. I know I will have to order the audio unit from V1 :angry2: . My question is how does this "box" from Valentine hooks up. Does it go in-line with the power (phone type) cord. I am running the cables for the Autocom and just want to know where to run them. Thanks all.... Smitty :)

If I recall, you have to buy the adapter from Autocom.

Everything else is in the V1 box - unless you want remote display and that is extra.

All that stuff will sit under the seat (near the autocom unit and your power source)

Only the long phone line will thread to the front of the bike where the unit is mounted.

This can be cut to any length.

So does the 12v power plugs into the audio unit (from valentine) and then out goes the the radar unit?? Then plug the 3.5mm jumper from the audio unit (from Valentine) to the Autocom... Am I on track here???

I think the answer is Yes. I believe two of the 4 leads on the phone jack are power. The other two are audio....or maybe digital data. Can't remember which ones are juice, but I tested by using a multimeter on DC scale and when I found 12 volts I then isolated which one was positive leaving the other as ground. I ended up using the stock cigarette lighter...so kind of not needed, but educational.

And, yes with the extra audio box you have pictured with a 3.5 mm jack (typical walkman.....not the smaller plug) goes to your Autocom (at least I used it with my Starcom Advance).

Smitty,

I think you're on track to be sure I'll explain my setup. I have 12V power going into the V1 Remote Audio Adapter via telephone wire. Then the connection from V1 Remote Audio Adapter to the V1 Radar Unit is through the telephone wire like you would use with the cigarette lighter adapter or Direct-Wire Power Adapter kit. Then I have the 3.5mm plug going from the Remote Audio Adapter into my MIX-IT unit... or in your case the Autocomm unit.

Better yet... I think the diagrams in the manual may better explain. The following link is the PDF of the manual. Go to page 14 of 20 on the PDF (or it is listed as page 63... don't understand why). This shows the different ways you can hook it up.

Hope this helps.

smitty,

You'll see how it works as soon as you see the audio module. I use a small 6" phone cord to go from the power out on the module to the power in on the detector. You can order short ones from Valentine or find them where they sell phone accessories. The phone cords only carry power, not audio. The module has a 1/8 plug on the front and a "smaller" plug in the back, so you can use either.I mount the audio module with velcro on the brake master cyl cover. It looks good and can be easily removed since it isn't waterproof (trust me).

Once installed the volume in the helmet will only be controlled by the module, not by the V1. However the mute button on either unit will mute the sound...very convenient.

If your Autocom is located in the back of the bike, you'll need longer audio cables. One of our members at Premier Cycle Products (or something like that) has I think 8ft long audio cables in several configurations.

I have the Parnes LED lights instead of the audio on my Beltronics. It's nice because you don't have to listen to all that k-band warnings from storefront doors. No audio hookup needed - and much nicer in the car - no need to bring attention to the audio from the SO.
