I took my bike to Yamaha of Cucamonga to have my valves checked. I have 27,300 miles and all was within specs. When I got home from picking it up (20 miles) I had oil all over my left boot and all over the side of the bike.

I found a pool of oil just behind the clutch bleed nipple in a recessed area. I was hoping it was just extra oil mess they forgot to clean up but I wasn’t so lucky. I got it all cleaned up and went around the block and the oil is back. I immediately called them and they told me to bring it back in the morning.

Anyone have an idea on what they could have screwed up?

Nothng wrong with using the old gasket if it's not damaged. But that's a very odd place for a leak -- the rear intake side. You can clearly see the gasket and its positioning there. More likely to have a gasket problem on the sides of the head cover rather than the front or back.

Well at least you know they actually removed the head cover and performed a visual inspection of the camshafts, etc.

I've removed the head cover twice and have reused the gasket. It's still very flexible and appears to be in excellent condition.

My 03 was one of the original tickers so the valve cover has been off more times than Busts pants for the girls and still has the original gskt. The only time it leaked was the last time I had it apart at 92k. It leaked right at the back in the center where it's easy to see. I just got in a hurry and didn't check my work.

Thanks for all the feedback. At least it is not something major. I hate to admit this but I have the bike on a trailer and will be dropping it off at 9 when they open. I will let you all know what they say was wrong.

You guys nailed it. Ended up being a split valve cover gasket.

All is well....so far. I just rode it home and there is no oil.

The one thing that does piss me off is they didnt even bother cleaning up the oil mess. I understand **** happens and I can ignore the gasket part but leaving the bottom of my bike dripping in oil is not cool. :angry2:

My bike has only been to the shop 2 times in 27,000 miles. Once for the ignition and this valve check. Valves are the only thing I don't know how to do YET.

Everyone makes mistakes. RofC seems to make good on the deal.

Give them a chance, folks.

I agree 100% and I never did say anything bad about them. I have always heard good things about them and all of the guys I talked to were really cool and they did apologize over and over. Mistakes happen and they totally made good on the deal. (Except for the cleaning part  )

By the way they have some cool pictures on their site of a fellow forum members FJR
