Rode the bike to get a valve check. No, not the bike's, mine.

Some years back I suffered some severe chest pain, bad enough that, according to my audience, I turned grey. I certainly felt grey.

We were on holiday in Japan with my wife's sister and her husband. Sister-in-law was a hospital theatre sister, worked for a surgeon specialising in transplants, knew a bit about hearts. At the time I was sure it was cramp in my pectoral muscle (what's left of it), however she insisted I had it checked when we got home.

Well, it wasn't a heart attack. However, when the doc listened to my heart, she found a prolapsed mitral valve, which I gather means the valve doesn't seat properly, leaks a bit. Apparently, they can't just lift my head and grind it in. Don't understand why we're designed to be so complicated.

The good news? It's asymptomatic. Nothing to do with my chest pain, no other effects that I'm aware of.

The bad news? Got to keep having it checked in case it gets worse.

Oh, well, gives me the excuse to ride to the hospital twice a year. Free parking for bikes, and filtering enables me to beat the traffic jams.
