Sure wish you folks were closer, I could use the work. I don,t work any faster but I have no overhead so I work cheaper :)
Sounds like we need to fly your Oregon ass down here to host a tech day. Or pay your expenses for a trip on your skooter?

Hmmmmmm.................

My bike rolled past 26k over the weekend (12.5k added in just over a year...record for me...thanks Feej!), so I'll be looking at getting this done sometime this year. I'd love to do this myself, but it may exceed my skill level and tool collection. ;)

It is good to see this forum has saved others heartache and cash because it sounds like these people are crooks looking to take advantage of people. I too wish I was closer to offer up my experience as limited as it may be I do 99% of my own work. You pay yourself to learn and perform your own maintenance.

+1 on getting away from the guy that wants to cut the chain.

5 hours does seem about right. I do alot of work myself, but for the valves I've used "a guy" that rides in one of the local groups and does this on the side. Happens to be an official bike mechanic at one of the dealers during the day, but worth knowing who's touching your bike and having someone you can trust to tell you from expierience the condition of various issues.

For me, cost $200, but took off the plastics myself since I was going to be doing some other items at the same time.

He also flushed the coolant which I think either had to be done, or was an opportune time to do. Did need to be done.

2 - How do I know if I need to get it done? or should I just do it because the maintenance list says?
FJR,

You really don't know for sure... if not burnt valves, etc could be in the future.

If you have YES on board, I would take this opportunity to have a Cetified Yamaha Mechanic do the work to keep your YES in good standing... in case something happens in the future. This is what I did and it paid off in spades. Now I will do it myself or pay someone that knows what they are doing if I don't have the time.

+1, Gunny! I just sent you a private message on this Skooty. I would throw $$$ into a money pool to get FJRay down here to Arizona to host a Tech Day, but being a greedy fecking Irishman, I would also have him change out my original Cam Chain Tensioner while he is down here; in addition to a valve check! We'll make him work out!

Also, knowing full well the cheap Irish ******* I am, Lucy Liu is still riding on her original suspension front and back; and Papa Chuy isn't getting any lighter. If FJRay was going to come to Arizona, I'd take advantage of that and finally upgrade Lucy's suspension. We talked about this on the phone yesterday, I'll keep Lucy Liu forever!

I would come down and show you boys & girls (or is it boys wearing girls clothes) how to perform a CCT change and valve check Owosso style but I doubt you cheap fecking Irishmen would cover my bar tab. :angry2: :p

Since you are too cheap to cover my bar tab you should have FJRay bring you a nice shiny Ohlins shock from GP Suspensions in Oregon City for Lucy Liu. You could then send FJRay back home with your forks and have GP Suspensions work their magic and ship them back to you.

I know one of your union brothers could bolt them back on Lucy Liu while you supervise.

By the way, while I have been known to imbibe from time to time I am no way in the same league as Rushes. I can usually remember where I left my pants :p

You're Welcome.

Yeah, my son is living in Sandpoint ID and he's only 484Mi from there, but it's the first 2585 before that that makes for a long tech session.
