Aight, so here's the dealio.

I need to take my wife on a weekend get-away. I'm leaning towards Vegas/South Rim of the Grand Canyon (in November)

Likely Fly in on a Friday, spend the weekend, back on Sunday or Monday.

Maybe (a big maybe) rent a bike, and if so likely a GW to run around, if not a decent rental car.

We don't have any desire to actually be in Vegas other than to possibly see a show or something. We're not gamblers. Would be happier staying in a B&B somewhere.

I assume the weather then will still be decent? Is this a bad idea? Destination suggestions? All of my trips to Vegas have been convention related. Which meant nothing but hotels, casino's and clubs. None of which would excite the wifey.

Vegas is cheap right now. Fly in, stay in Vegas, go see a show (Le Reve at Wynn or KA at MGM), and do a helicopter tour of the Grand Canyon. The helo tours are awesome, best way to see the canyon. The one I did was a four hour excursion, $300 a person. Beats the hell out of flying in, driving half a day each way, and only getting to stand and look at the canyon. They picked us up in a van at the hotel and dropped us off afterwards and fed us at a ranch adjacent to the canyon.

I'd say if you were gonna fly into Vegas and then hit the Canyon It'd be better by car this time of year. I'm sure Vegas to Kingman and probably even Williams would be fine on a bike, albiet boring, but If you're headed for Bright Angel Overlook and the S Rim Lodge keep in mind that the rim is pretty high elevation (7000 ft) and the weather can change quickly like most all of N AZ. The North Rim actually closes in Mid October. There can also be ALOT of traffic on that road that would be frustrating for a bike. The Canyon is truly a sight to see but personally I'd rent a car to see it.
