VFR - throttle body sync?

I have a friend with an '05 VFR and it has about 12k miles on.

On my FJR you are supposed to do a throttle body sync every 5k miles or so and I do it myself, as I have done with carb sync's on my other bikes.

Should we be doing the TBS on the VFR?

If so, any tips or procedures on how to do it as I haven't ever worked on a VFR?

I have a friend with a 97 VFR that has gone 80K. He's never done it and his bike runs fine. I don't know what the recommended interval is - probably 8K or something like this.

I view TBS on almost any bike as one of those things that can result in a smoother running bike with a steadier idle, but not a critical service like oil changes. If the bike is running fine with no obvious vibe problems, you can safely let it ride, but the bike will probably run a little nicer if you do it at the service intervals recommended.

There's nothing specal about the VFR except that you have to remove quite a bit of stuff to get access to the adjustment screws and spigots. As always, these things really should not be attempted without a shop manual.

How do you do a throttle body sync on a 1997 vfr that has carbs. I may be wrong but I thought the throttle body only applied to a fuel injected bike. I in addition to my FJR and KLR have a 99 VFR with F/I. I had to remove the entire fuel system a while ago to believe it or not, get to the water hoses and thermostat housing. The factory honda manual states that under no circumstances do you crack any of the adjustment screws. my vfr has over 42k on it and runs as good as it did when It was new. What I would do is consult the factory manual (and honda has the best) to see if they even mention it. My guess, and its a guess is that they do not show or recomend the proceedure for any year of f/i interceptor. The 99 vfr with fuel injection has no mention of TBS at all.

The service manual for the 00 VFR shows the procedure in a non-intuitive place of the manual. I can't remember but it may be in the general maintenance section.
