Had a really pronounced vibration @ 4200RPM in my new 08, dealer tried new plugs and vibration is much much better. Thought I would pass it along, might work for someone else.

Plugs......?

Trust me on this,... alot of the vibration you feel is comming through you'r right hand per it's extra required grip. GO BUY a Throttle Rocker at any bike shop and if after 2000 km's you don't like it i'll give you the $15 back for it next time i get over to NS/Halifax. Just be carefull as it takes a bit of time to get comfortable with it position wise.

And as with any new bike keep thinking,.... relax the grip on the damn bars

Cheers

-Don

Is it a vibration or a buzz....I get a buzz and feel it through the whole bike, not just the handlebars. Fortunately it's just at this specific rpm and at that is only mild.

It was more of a buzz but it was bad. The whole bike as well. Mine was more than annoying on hands, it was feet, hands, butt, mirrors vibrating at very high frequency, tooth fillings trying to vibrate out etc. It was bad enough that you got the feeling that the bike wouldn't be long shaking its self apart. Now there is a slight buzz that I would associate with a large inline 4, before it seemed like a very real mechanical defect. Don't know if a sparkplug problem would normally generate something like this but I thought who knows, it fixed mine maybe it will work for someone else.

Lets put it this way, I couldn't stand to drive the bike at 130Km/h on the way up (the dealer I bought from is 100Km away) and on the back I cruised at 130Km/h enjoying the view. I'll check out the throttle rocker Don mentioned however, see if it kills the little hum that is left.

Cheers,

Pete

Grip puppies are your answer for that last little bit of hum, plus the grips will now fit your hands.

My 08 has the same symptoms. My 04 didn't have near this much vibes or buzz. Whatever you want to call it. I call it irritating. Mine comes in around 4,000rpm too and it is the whole bike, not just the bars. Perhaps I should relax my grip with my butt on the seat, or my feet on the pegs. I guess I could just ride with them in the air till I needed to shift gears or brake. As for the Throttle rocker, I don't see what that has to do with vibes through the handlebar. My hand is still on the bar feeling the buzz. Been using the Throttle Rocker for 5 years. I can relax my hand, but it's still on the bar. Grip Puppies help a little, but still way too much vibes. And yes, I did a TBS right after I got the bike. Everything was spot on. I would be willing to try some new plugs. If it helps, good. If it doesn't, no big deal I was going to change them anyway. The naysayers that think these bikes all have the same amount of engine vibration are a little delusional. I've have owned 2 FJRs and they are night and day on the amount of vibes they put out.

GP

You're right, they can all be different. Mine is the opposite story. My '08 is much smoother. Really enjoyable cruising at 80mph, right in the range where the '04 would really start buzzing. The '08 is just smooooooooth!

I hear you. I test rode an FJR last year and it was smooth as silk. This sounds odd but the mechanic checked the TBs and they were on so he pulled the plugs to see if they were all sparking o.k. etc. He said that they seemed to be sparking from the back of the plug end rather than the tip (if that makes sense). He put new plugs in an took a look and he said that the old plugs were quiet and the new ones snapped very loudly by comparison. He suggested taking it out to see if there was any difference and there was a substantial difference. The bike still hums, buzzes or whatever as you get above 4000, but nothing like it did. Perhaps I had a bigger problem that got remedied.

I sometimes wonder if the exhaust note is such that it is creating some resonance at that rpm and if that might be part of it. Did the exhaust change at all from 07-08? Whatever it is, I think anyone who would have taken my 08 out prior to the new plugs would have agreed that something was wrong. I hope you find the fix because you are right, it was very irritating.

First of all SouthernCruizer, I'm jealous because I used to have a smoother bike. :D Pehler, I'm going to try the new plugs. It's close to time to change them anyway. I suppose it's possible they got a bad batch of plugs. I was hoping it would smooth out after a few thousand miles, but no dice. I'm at 8,000 miles now and it's as pronounced as ever. Gonna be hard to get used to that.

For those of you that think you have a buzz, you need to ride a old style Concours for about 7 years......you do not have a buzz

I have an 08 with the same buzz at 4000+ quite bad, tbs didn't help much... been messing with co #

and have improved it alot.

Unless at the track, if you are above 4000 in 5th gear, you are dangerously breakin' the law. Your choice to do so and put yourself and others at risk, but a choice usually reserved for those with less than stellar judgment.

they geared the bike taller in 06 on,,so at highway speeds it didnt vibrate as much,,but the fjr really vibrates between 6500 and 8500,,i can feel it in my *** coming through the seat from the frame,,,n my friends 08 does the same thing at the same rpms,,,i have 65k,,it is just where it happens to vibrate most,,they r balanced to be smoother at certain rpms,,,it was something i learned to live with,,,did u ever wash your bike??,,n think it ran better,,lol,,lol,,i dont think changing plugs will change the balance of your motor,,i changed plugs at 30k and at 60k,,they looked just like new,,gap was within tolerance,, they were light brown n clean as a whistle

Most modern engines are tuned to be very lean in the cruise range for both better emissions and fuel economy. A lean fuel mixture is more difficult to ignite than a richer mixture. It is important to keep the sparkplugs in good condition. Also opening the gap a little (.003-.005" in.) seems to help sometimes. It raises the required voltage to fire the plug so you get a good hot spark and it opens up more of the fuel in the combustion chamber to the spark which helps promote good consistant ignition. This can result in a smoother running engine.

Sounds reasonable. Is it true?

may buzz point was at 4000 real bad...around town I would shift around 3000 to avoid it.

I have changed my co # s to 14-18-18-24 and things have smothed out a lot! The buzz

point now starts around 5000 and is lot less,I find myself running it up to that a lot now!
