I have an '04 Wee Strom, and was looking at trying to install the Vista Cruise single cable unit on it like I did both my FJRs. I used the method shown in Marc Lewis'? FJRTech site.

Since the throttle cables are basically upside down to the FJR, and 180 degrees on the Wee set up, I wondered if anybody has been able to do the same kind of install on the Wee?

I've searched the VStrom forums with no success at this install. They do other things similar, and use NEPs.

At the moment it looks like I could make a small "U" or "L" shaped piece to screw into the weep hole on the bottom of the throttle housing, and then screw the Vista tab into the side of the housing through the homemade piece, to keep the Vista from rotating.

If so, it would look and mount pretty much like the FJR modified set up. Anybody have a better idea?

Thanks.

Nobody replied, so I took the jump myself. It appears it can be done with a little work.

Dremmeled the throttle tube a bit, drilled a hole for a set screw, trimmed the grip and it was all set. No big deal, just take it slow and easy-- I almost took too much off.

It's been a long winter.

Looks like you did a nice job mounting it. It should work well as long as you don't pinch the VistaCruise tight against the throttle housing. What you are looking for is a close fit of the screw and the hole in the plastic to minimize any slop.

Here's a picture how I typically mount them...

That is a large flat washer that has been sawed, bent and drilled to provide a stop dog. It mounts off one of the screws holding the housing on the handlebars.

The end result is the same - it positions the thumb lever in the right location, and keeps it from rotating with the throttle tube.

Thanks for posting, it's always good to see different ways of doing things, it keeps the creative juices going. :good:

That's a good mod too. Unfortunately none of the bolt heads on the '04's tube cable housing were in a good location to do something similar, and I didn't want to use a Universal.

I cut the flange off the Vista Cruise, used the dremel to clean the paint off the throttle housing on either side of where the vista's tab would be & rough the aluminum a bit, then used clay dams to cast a boss on either side of the Vista. The bosses were cast with JB Weld. Painted black it looks like part of the original throttle housing casting.
