Took my wife and mistress (Feej) to the Vortex last night for Thursday night biker night. Great time, about 40 or so bikes of all sorts and Atlanta's best burger and great beer selection. It wasn't my first time there but it was my first Thursday there and I'm going to try to make it a weekly outing. Stop by next Thursday night if you live in the area.

I used to work at Junkman's Daughter when I was a kid. I had a studio there for a while as well. Fond memories. Haven't been there in 10 years though

I was actually going to stop in there to see what it was all about (very colorful from the outside) but I was too intrigued by the vortex...I'll stop in there next thursday.

I'm a bit too old to "fit in" at the vortex myself....

but...

are you talking abut the club "#1 Stunas" ? One girl that rides with them works with me. She has some club stickers on her bike and I didn't know what it was about until I stopped by the Yamaha dealer on Thornton Rd and saw a flyer they had left there for some event.

Asked her if she was one of those roudy riders that do 135 mph around the perimiter. She grinned and replied, "Why....did you see me?"

I like to give her a hard time (all in fun) because I ride my bike to work a LOT more than she does.

You're not too old Ray. I was there last week and there were people of all ages, races and just about every kind of bike. My wife and I kind of kept to ourselves but we still had a good time. And again, those are the best burgers in town!

So... there I was...

Standing in the Vortex parking lot and not a FJR in sight.

Some guy starts up the loudest Harley I have ever heard and it backfires on start. I instinctivly reached for the safety on my M-16 and took a half-step toward cover...

How do these people continue to live? If I lived next to this guy we would be at war.

Anyway, where was everyone?

Sorry B, I forgot you were considering going to the vortex for biker night or I would have went. Melanie got off work late so we just went to Taco Mac instead. Did you get your FJR yet or is it still on order?

It has been a busy day at work today but if I get the chance I will call D&H and give them the down payment. The last time I spoke with them they had no idea when it would be available from Yamaha.

I could have been happy with the '08 if I didnt like the color of the '09 so much. For a few hundred I might as well get the color I like.

Then again, I could just coat the whole thing with retroreflective tape...

It would look like something out of Close Encounters:

Too bad it's on Thursday nights. Gotta get up early on Friday mornings. Can't even do justice to the Thursday night bike nights at Quaker Steak & Lube and they are much closer to where I live. <sigh>...

I remember hearing in high school health class that as you get older you don't need as much sleep. I'm still waiting for that to kick in. Haven't seen it yet.

Dang, I feel old....<sigh>...

Of course...sometimes I get a Wed off.....and Tuesday night was bike night at Hooters in Hiram..... :dribble:

How far is the Quaker Steak from Atlanta? I had no idea we even had them in GA. Last time I was at one was when I was living in Cleveland, OH and I remember the buckets of wings they served as being great. Maybe I'll try that next thursday if I'm not on call.

This one is at Arbor Place mall just off I-20 by Douglasville. West side of ATL.

So...you lived in Cleveland?? Every hear of a place about 30 miles east of there called Chardon? That's where I grew up. Much happier down south now away from all that snow.

and.....while you were up there did you ever get to the original Quaker Steak in Sharon, PA? My wife is from there. According to some photos at the one here in Douglasville, the original place has the record for the largest turn out for a bike night, or something like that.

We got to check out one bike night there several years ago when we were visiting her folks. There was an unbelievable number of bikes there. Someone had even brought a Vincent!

I drove past Vortex the other day on the way home from the wife's Dr appointment at Emory.....

I feel REALLY old....My son is older than most of the kids I saw hanging out at Vortex.

Oh well....
