The North Cascades Highway is closed and will remain closed all weekend due to avalanche danger. Crews will return Monday, May 19, to assess the avalanche and road conditions. One snowslide has already come across the highway at Liberty Bell Mountain (milepost 165). Crews were able to move most of the snow to ensure that travelers could leave the passes. The gates are closed at milepost 134 on the west side and 170.6 on the east side. Drivers should check mountain pass conditions for all passes in the state before traveling this weekend. Pass conditions can be found at www.wsdot.wa.gov or by calling traveler information at 5-1-1.
