I was coming south on 97 this morning about 6 a.m. south of Omak and WSP passed me going in the opposite direction. Didn’t take long at all before the lights light up behind me and we had a good exchange. No question my speed was in excess 10 over. We had a discussion about the importance of taking it easy and how easy it is to get the speed up at that time of day with light traffic and all. Light rain at the time.
He ran the license and registration, suggested that I be careful, keep an eye out for critters, stay focused on the speed, and wished me a nice day.

A genuinely good experience.... :)

Was it the younger fella driving the SUV?
A young fella for sure... but at my age, aren’t they all? Good guy, well spoken, seemed to take his job serious and offered good advice. He had a good firm handshake as well. Was not driving a SUV however, it was a cruiser with some very bright lights.

Aren't they ALL like that when they're behind you???

I made a trip up to Lynnwood and back on Friday in the cage. Man, they were EVERYWHERE! Many more than last Friday. I kept to about 5-over and had no issues.

Found this nice little example: guy on a 2008 Kawasaki ZX1400 going 152!
GOLDENDALE, Wash. -- A motorcyclist was handed a $411 ticket after a trooper clocked him going 152 mph on a 60 mph road last weekend, state police said.

Now, that's plumb reasonable... In Oregon the bail for 100+ is something >$1100... plus some other Bad Things, most likely.

In WA double the posted is felony speeding and automatic jail. Gotta wonder why that boy got off so easy. In OR I've had a more expensive ticket for passing a bicycle at 10 mph because I fully crossed the double yellow. (bicycle was in the middle of the road). $440 ticket and no love from the judge.

I was stopped awhile back by the Omak WSP in the SUV. Young guy who rides a GXXR 1000. Decent sort of fella. Seemed to have a deeper understanding than most.

Well the hi-viz lights certainly aren't your father's Bubble Gum Machine that's for sure...

Now its a very good possibility that we both benefited from the same individual. I just had this feeling he was a little Moto Savey as I noticed he was looking the bike over in a way that someone with little or no Moto experience would not do. I do know this, if the objective was to slow me down and ride with a bit more regard for the speed limit. "Mission Accomplished!" :clapping:

I had the identical experience in the same spot back in early January except I was in my truck with the cruise set at 69mph. The young trooper in his crown victoria whipped around to pull me over. Luckily I pulled the radar detector off the windshield while he was turning around because they can be a guaranteed ticket if seen. No traffic on the road, so no advance warning from the Valentine One until it exploded when he triggered his instant on radar. He sent me on the way with a verbal warning to slow down and be safe. :yahoo: I drive a few time each year to Tonasket and the WSP is always running up and down 97 triggering their instant on radar at oncoming cars. The Valentine has given warning everytime, but it's not infallible.

On our trip across Hwy 20 & beyond on Sunday, we saw several & various police.... only one was running a hot radar. That was kind of weird... usually they run hot all the time.

Man... its a hose out there! I see Hiway 5-0 up an down 405 every day. They are layin' it on strong right now!

Yesterday (20 Apr) was by FAR the worst I have ever seen for this "speed patrol" business.... and it was all in town!

WSP had 4 cars pulled over on my 7 mile commute home! Then, when I roll into West Richland, there are four West Richland PD cruisers working the first 2 miles on the main Van Giesen Rd. Only one was still lurking behind some shrubbery; the other three had vehicles pulled over, collecting revenue for the city. <_<
