Ride safe.

The three amigo's will be a few days behind you. See ya out there!

Made it to St Ignace, Michigan and just got into the lobby of the motel when the skies opened up. It was just a microburst and didn't last very long. I did see one interesting thing today. Just north of my place there was a sign warning of drifting snow. The ambient temp gauge on the FJR was reading 31C (88F). Well it is the Great White North. We have that industrial strength snow around here I guess. By the time I cleared customs it was already 3PM so I just slabbed it up to the Mac Bridge.

Unfortunately no pic since I was a little later leaving than planned and the planned route needs me to cover some ground each day. I don't really plan on any photos until I get to the bumps out west. Today was just over 900 km and looked like this to SPOT...

Hey Bill
I can't believe how close you were to me yesterday. I was in Clinton until about 1pm having a new set of tires put on.
Well.... him having met both of us may have had something to do with his just driving by  .

He wasn't more than 20 miles from me...

Be safe Bill!

Great Thinking, Bill; Have a safe and fun trip, mi Amigo!

Safe travels, Bill!
Any chance you could post up / PM the link for your Spot tracker?
No problem, here you go...

WCR Spot Tracker

As far as missing Bustanut & Huron52, I am planning on visiting with Bustanut on the way back when I have the time to visit properly plus I need to give Barry time to stock up on Crown Royal.

I stopped in at Aerostich on the way through Duluth today for a little power shopping. Nothing big, just some odds & ends since I didn't want to burn down my credit card.

So far we are on schedule and on track...

Whoever mentioned the wide open spaces forgot to mention the WINDY wide open spaces. I pushed through some nasty cross winds all the way across South Dikota today and will I sleep good tonight. There were some detours to contend with today and I think my GPS got confused. I know it wasn't me. I know I'm heading west. In between fighting the winds and running 130+ across the interstate for 500 km when I finally got the GPS sorted the gas mileage really took a beating today. I was doing well to get 250 km out of a tank before it was time to look for gas.

Here is where SPOT said we went today...

Now the ride should be fun now that the boring bits are behind me.

Really fun ride today. I backtracked from Sturgis to Rapid City and then turned south and went down to Hot Springs. I then ran 87 North and came across a few road blocks...

These brutes seem to take great care in leaving little brown surprises in the corners exactly on the race line. You very much needed to pay attention.

A little further along there was a nice photo op just across the valley from the spires...

It would been very easy to get into photo mode but I had other plans and kept riding. The weather was perfect for riding and I didn't stop until I had 1200 km in the saddle and made it into Helena. It was just about a perfect day. This is what it looked like to the satellities...

Tomorrow we head up the "To the Sun Highway" and cross back over into the Great White North.

I was just mentioning in an e-mail to a friend about the Harley riders I've seen over the last two days. There are no helmet laws in this area and almost all the Harley riders are without helmets. It just looks so weird (& stupid) to me.

Fun post! I'll be eating popcorn and watching this one unfold... :yahoo:
+1, Gunny! You bet, Bill; I love reading your Ride Reports, your trip riding dirt around Iceland was a True Classic. Have fun and ride safe, please keep these photos and narratives coming to your friends!
