As a side note, for those folks that are not quite ready to take advantage of the power commander group buy (excellent deal), I would recommend taking a look at fuelmotousa.com as another option down the line.

I had excellent prior results with them when obtaining a power commander on my DL1000 V-Strom (which should include a power commander as standard equipment). They include their own map pre-loaded in the unit based on your specific model and options, plus double the standard warranty. Current price for the FJR is 259.00 plus 12.95 shipping.

Just another option out there for those folks not able to take advantage of the group buy.

Finally got the PC3 the other day and loaded two maps , one at a time, and my results are posted below after 30 mins of pounding it on each map:

Uselesspickles converted map with a K&N - NO NOTICABLE IMPROVEMENT (or ill effect) OFF IDLE or accross the entire range to red-line

Raybans 06 Holeshot Wally Combo (aurthor unknown): NO MORE FREAKING STUMBLE OFF IDLE OR 2000 RPM AND BELOW PARKING LOT

INSTABILITIES. Stumbled once at full throttle in 3rd gear but it might have been a rev limiter or something, I wasn't watching the tach. All around healthy!

Please know that I have a Gen II with holshots, a K&N, snorkle off, smog removed and PAIR pluged. My confidence is much higher now that the throttle is more responsive and predictable. In comparison of the two maps, I think the holeshots 2% colum is much richer than the Pickles map which is useless....lol (no pun intended)

Sorry Pickles but you asked for results, I gave umm (a year later). Your enthusiasm is much appreciated! It might work better for someone else.

Next Mod please.................................something cheaper...LOL

You're right... it might work better for someone with the same setup that the map is intended for: Stock exhaust, no airbox mods, K&N air filter.

Mr Pickles - how are you man?

I've been running the Wally Smoothness map for about 12 months - which was better than with no PC at all - but I always thought I gave up some low end thrust (insert dirty grin here) to obtain the smoothness.

So I tried your calculated map for my 06 (non K&N filter - no air box mods, yet) and I've got my bike's full zap back (but it's still smooth)

thanks for posting up these maps - I think I'll be keeping the new map on for a bit - I didn't find any nuisance range(s) but I'm sure there was more pulling power from stop up to 4,500 revs than with the original smoothness map..... and we all know how nice that get-up-and-go feeling is.... :yahoo:

thanks Bud - ride safe - Bull

PS - I know this might sound funny - but the engine also sounded a wee bit different today -difficult to describe - a little more yeeha than the usual stock, stealth note.... and I'm sure that wasn't just because I was squeezing her a little harder than usual to feel out the new map. Nicer note(s) - an added fringe benefit.

The smoothness map for Gen II w/ K&N filter is fantastic! Thanks for doing the conversion!
Hi Monkey - about the K&N filter - do you think it's worth the 75 or so bucks? I've never used one before on any of my rides/vehicles....

TIA - Bull

I'll take a crack at this. "I" don't think it's worth it, but that's my personal opinion.

As far as I am concerned, the K&N air filter offers no performance benefit to the FJR. There may be claims that it does, but find me one dyno graph not supplied by K&N that shows that improvement. The tuners I have talked to say that in this modern day of engineering, the airbox/filter combination of today's bikes is rarely the weak link. As a general rule, K&N filters used to give a modest improvement in the old days, but no so anymore.

What the K&N filter does give you is the advantage of a re-useable filter and extended maintenance interval. No more buying filters all the time with the K&N. Just the occasional clean and re-oiling of it.

But these are also the K&N's disadvantages to me. I ran one for 40,000 miles or so on my FJR, but now it just sit's in a box. I like being able to take an old filter out, and put a new one in right away and be done with it. Cleaning and re-oiling the K&N was a PITA as far as I was concerned. I don't need the bother. Second, K&N says that it doesn't need to be replaced for extended periods and that it actually works better if it is somewhat dirty. The question is, what is the extended period, and what is 'somewhat dirty'. I never knew when I should actually clean and service my K&N. When did it go from 'good dirty' to 'bad dirty'.

Lastly, many ions ago I saw some report from what I think was an objective source that showed that the K&N filters just didn't filter as good as a typical OEM filter. Wish I could find it.

There's my .02. YMMV.

Wow. That's a tough call... I believe so, but then again I'm kind of a K&N loyalist (both oil and air filters) for reasons that I lost track of 20 years ago.

I do believe that the K&N filter provides a less restricted airflow vs the OEM filter. Many tuners I've talked with and tuning "how-to" guides I've read seem to concur. As an aside, in the automotive world K&N is the gold standard in air filtration. Many of the top intake system manufacturers like C&L and JLT use K&N filters exclusively.

BTW: try Motorcycle Superstore for K&N filters. They were running a special a few weeks back and I picked up a K&N air filter for $60.00, and a couple of K&N oil filters for around $9.00 ea.

Thank You for the map conversion UselessPickles :yahoo:

I ran the "stock" setup map for a tank of gas and liked it. I got 34 mpg (CA. gas) which is mostly canyon carving with a bit of highway cruising. I loaded your map yesterday and went for a brief ride to the coast and back and it was silky smooth. It almost was like an electric motor. I noticed a bit of power loss at highway speeds in 5th gear when I stomp on it, downshifting gave me that warp speed I was used to. Still need some more miles to get a good mpg reading, but one odd thing I noticed, which could be my own perception, was very little engine braking when I let go of the throttle compared to the other map. However I like what I'm getting, a far cry from the the "bucking bronco" I purchased.

Thanks for the maps. I just recently got the USBIII. I had my local shop install it, they fiddled around and ended up using the "Two Brothers." I'm sure they didn't make any changes to the maps. The bike is stock with the 02 sensor disconnected. I am getting 38 mpg with this setup. Bottom 1/3 feels a little murky, would be nice to get some snap down there. Throttle response is much smoother and the engine is generally smoother. I'm spoiled however because I put 35K on a Kawi ZZR 1200 - wonderful engine and incredibly quick and fun. 41 mpg hauling but up to 160. FJR (at least in its current incarnation) doesn't compare. Anyhow, I downloaded the two maps and look forward to giving them a try. I'll need to do some more research before tweaking the maps myself.

Love the FJR generally! Wonderful, comfortable bike. I commute 45 miles/day and love every minute of it (mostly highway here in El Lay).

Cheers!

I'm glad my efforts proved useful.

Ironically, I don't use my own map. Don't even have a PCIII now :)
