I just returned from the dealer. The *real* deal is that they want $13,799 for the bike + $350 to do the swap. The salesman said he talked to the guys in the shop, etc. and they figured a day (10 hours) to do the swap (both bikes). Shop labor is $70/hr and he would split the swap cost with me so I'd pay 5 hours. The OTD price would be $14,149 + license/reg. for a silver non-AE 2007. Now I just need to decide if the extra $$$ and paying MSRP is worth it. I'm ok with the $350 to do the swap since this is not a common thing. Is paying MSRP common or do most dealers come down some?
Tophog - are you dealing with the Yamaha dealership on the north end of Portland Road? If so, be afraid, be very afraid...nice people, but their prices and workmanship are scary.

Actually no, CycleSports won't get my business :) I have yet to hear very good things about them. The dealer I'm referring to is Power Yamaha in Sublimity.

Oh, I always forget about the shop in Sublimity. I've heard some good things about them. A buddy I work with bought on '05 new off the floor in December of '05 from them. He had a great experience there. Cool.

Without considering to price, etc ........ I think it's a cool idea to swap out the body panels!

Seems like a lot of uneccessary cost to me. I would rather have a unique color that gets tons of compliments and save the money for a new seat and such. Otherwise, buy used. My two cents...

Well I'm either going to do the swap or try and find a new blue 06. I won't buy the black cherry 07 ...my wife would like it though :)

I know where there's a Blue 06 if your interested. You willing to come to Seattle for a bike? You can get the sales tax waived if you bring your license and a piece of mail that proves you Oregon residency. PM me if you are interested. I try the get the final price worked out for you.

I guess it's crunch time and I need to make a decision one way or another. I can have an 07 non-AE gray for MSRP out the door. I need to decide if the extra $500 or so is worth my color choice or buying a new 06 Blue would be better. I'd also consider a used 06 blue with VERY low miles (under 2K). However I'm thinking if I were to get an 06 for a good price (not sure what *good* is) I also have to take into account an 06 is already 1+ year old. Then again, I've even been asking myself if I will be sorry to get rid of the Hayabusa since the fun factor is a 10 ...right up to the point where my butt, back and shoulders start to hurt :) Decisions decisions.

Like the Hayabusa, you can still get enough acceleration to get arrested out of the FJR. You'll just be more comfortable doing it, and you get ABS and hard side bags.

:yahoo:

I found a 2005 FJR with 350 miles on it for $10K. Are the changes in 2006 with the extra money to buy a 2006/07?

Let the experts weigh in but I think it would be a mistake to get the 05. Just the changes to remove the heat from the rider on the 06 are worth getting the 06

'05's have a heat issue? What you talking 'bout Willis?!

:)

I agree, I love my '05 but given a choice I would go witht he '06+ as well given all the changes made to the GenII's.

I do not yet own a new FJR because I want a 07 Silver/gray A ...not AE. I got to thinking that all I would need to do is find someone with an AE that would rather have Black Cherry and we would swap panels, tanks, bags, etc. ? Is there any reason why this would not work? I sent an email describing this proposition to every Yamaha dealer in my vicinity in hopes I might get lucky. Nothing against Black Cherry ...I just like the gray better and all my existing gear is gray/blue (gear from Hayabusa).
If there is someone out there in the NW that's looking to buy a new 07 AE and would rather have black cherry please let me know :)

But even if you change all the colored panels, the tires are still going to be black and the tail light is still going to be red!

CK :angry2:

It appears my options are becoming extremely limited. Find a new or used 06 with very low miles or do the swap. Black Cherry is out. If worst comes to worst I'll ride the Busa another season and see what happens in 08.

Thanks for all the help/feedback.

Hey Tophog,

I'm new here and I live in Bend and am picking up my '07 Black Cherry today in fact!! FWIW, I'm paying $13,818 OTD, that's $13,700 plus $118 DMV. They originally wanted an extra $300 for dealer setup and whatever else but agreed to throw that in. (I guess I should be grateful, eh?) :nea:

I guess I should feel offended also that some of you think this color is a girls color. I happen to have painted my 2006 Suzuki M109R that color (see my avatar), and that's also my member name on the M109Riders forum (and this one), and when I saw the FJR in this color, well, I think it was a sign from up above. :innocent:

I've always wanted to add one to my stable ever since riding my employees '05 FJR, in that beautiful dark blue color! Man that sucker was FAST!! My hands were still shaking a half hour after I got off the bike. :blushsmiley:

So anyway, I can't really help you with your problem because you guys can have my black cherry panels when you pry them from my cold dead hands!! :gun:

I hope to get to know you guys a lot better :friends: and you'll probably be seeing a lot of me in the future. The guys on the M109R forum will thank you. :lol2:

I already have a candy apple red Harley and don't want two bikes the same color. Besides, dark colors are hard to maintaii and scratches show much more then lighter colors, at least thats from my experience. Perhaps we will meet some day and go for a ride. I spend quite a bit of time over your way during the summer I have a river front lot in Oregon Water Wonderland on the Deschuttes just down from CrossWater golf course. No house yet, just use our RV over there when we want to get away from the valley.

Awesome! I look forward to perhaps meeting this summer and going for a ride. Good luck finding the bike you want in the color you want for the right price! :thumbsupsmiley:

I will put this thread to bed. I bit the bullet and bought the 07 non-AE in Cerulean Silver. Pick-up Saturday.

My hat's off to Power Yamaha in Sublimity, Oregon for the willingness to do the body swap. That said they will have a new 2006 AE in Black Cherry available by Fri or Saturday :) I will add that they just got in two more 07 FJR's yesterday, still in the crate. If anyone is interested talk to Lon.

I also met the svc. mgr regarding the possibility of him undoing the throttle spring 1 turn since he will be swapping tanks. I explained the operation and even showed him a pict from this forum however he wasn't willing to do it, not that he didn't want to but said it was a liability issue with Yamaha. I guess I know what the first mod will be.
