There's just something I like about using OEM replacement parts.
We've pretty much determined that the OEM CCT is at the root of all that's evil with recently-grenaded FJR motors. Since the manufacturer has demonstrated time and again that they must be dragged kicking and screaming into doing the right thing, some of us are willing and eager to come up with a better-engineered part, and applaud the offer of a fellow forum member to pioneer yet another grass-roots kick-*** farkle....
Gunny that!

Really? So you guys really think someone is going to sue you because they decided to modify their bike with a non-OEM farkle?

Come on now. You must be kidding. If that was the case then nobody would ever modify their bikes. Nobody would dare to make or sell any aftermarket accessories. Brodie would never have come up with a fix to the ignition switch design that Yamaha has recalled and is yet to really fix.

Whether it is a manual CCT or some ratcheting design from another bike, I fully intend on finding a substitute for what amounts to a substandard design OEM tensioner, and get it into my bike before another 10k miles passes (I'm at 30k now). I know there are a bunch of others in the same boat. You don't have to make and sell them, but sharing your findings (measurements, similarities to other tensioners, etc) with other owners who are in the same boat is what makes this forum work.

If you are too paranoid, too afraid of potential consequences to share your ideas, well I just feel sorry for you.

An after that I bet you'll go crazy and mount a car tire on it eh Fred? You live dangerously my man

:jester:

When this started months ago I offered pictures and demensions of the parts needed to convert to a manual CCT. Nobody was interested.

In the days after my bankruptcy and divorce I lived in a trailer with a little honda generator for power so I wasn't worth going after. Now I own my home and everything in it so in this world we live in now with everybody and their brother looking for a free buck I choose not to stick my neck out. To old and disabled to start over. I do really appreciate your sympathy however.

If I had a business with liability insurance I would be fine with it and let the insurance deal with any problems. I am an employee with no liability insurance and if something goes wrong it comes out of my pocket.

Once again, the fear-mongers have prevailed. Be afraid, be very afraid. The sky is falling! So are our valves!

Thanks. :angrysmiley: :argue: :angry03:

Sad but true

Sadly too few people stand up and accept accountability for their own actions. By that I mean the owner of the bike choosing to do what ever they that may cause problems down the road.

The amount of nay saying BS that was posted on the CT thread did not sway those that choose to keep an open mind and accept the risks that come with trying something different from what the masses accept as 'normal'.

You are quite welcome. And don't forget to look behind the doors!!

The offer still stands for anyone that wants to convert their own or have it done. Any hobby machinist or shop can do it in a few minutes. I will email some pics and sizes or you can search the forum for the ones that are out there allready.

The only thing behind the door is the shotgun. :)

Yeah that, and Jody. You know Jody. He's the guy that comes and takes your place when you aren't home? Jody is hiding behind the door too. And he has the shotty. Better not look... ;)

Pm sent from here too.

This is getting weird and Bust, Odot and Howie are not involved.

Gotta keep up the tradition. Some one who just stumbled in wouldn't even be able to tell it was Friday, fer Chrise'sakes.
