Wanted--Non-Mesh Riding Pants

Funny how much gear you collect over time, but I've got one gap for cool/cold/wet weather pants. Among other things, I've got a good summer mesh pair, and warm, heavily lined riding jeans, but those aren't waterproof or well armored.

So what I need is a pair of protective riding pants, something like a heavy Cordura with knee and hip pads, heavy enough to keep me comfortable in low temps and water resistant enough for at least light rain. If it's really gushing, my REI rain (over) pants keep me dry all day.

Sure, I could just go online and buy just what I want, and spend more than I want, but I know there are lots of folks like me here who have good gear they never use or never will. And I've had good luck with all kinds of used gear on this forum. So who's got those extra pants?

One other little thing--they should fit. When I go to the pants store, I'm looking for 36/32, so whatever that translates to in motorcycle garb, that's what I want. Somebody? Let me know, and thanks.

Hopefully someone will have an extra set of Firstgear HT overpants or Dariens.

For winter and cool wet weather, I absolutely love my Firstgear HT overpants. They were a gift from my wife, and they are amazing. On or off, leaving boots on, in 10 seconds. These are what I want when it's cold as hell. They are comfortable on or off the bike, and very warm. The insulated liner is ingeniously designed so, even with the liner in, you can still unzip each leg to the hip to facilitate changing. Liner is easily removable. Come with integrated quick release belt, adjustable waist tabs, external pocket. Still my go-to for really cold weather.

And then I went Aerostich. Bought a pair of like-new Darien pants from a cool dude out in California. They are my go-to cool weather and/or wet-weather pants. I only reach for the HT's when it's in the mid 30's or below.

You are exactly right about accumulating too much gear. I have a few pairs of pants that might suit you. I too wear 36/32 pants but I'v lately put on a few pounds and these overpants still fit me (probably do to the adjustability of them, with cinching velcro waist straps).

I have a pair of Firstgear HT pants, complete with armor and zip-out, insulating liner in very good condition.

I have another pair of Firstgear overpants that did not come with a liner (I'll have to check to see the model name).

And, lastly, I have a pair of Tourmaster Caliber overpants that is missing the zip-out liner. This pair has a little wear (not much, but not like new like the HT pants) as it was my go to riding pants until I got an Aerostich R3 suit.

I reach for the stich every time I ride now so I haven't used these other pants in the last couple years.

If you are interested, send me a message and I can get some pics to you and discuss price. They would all be under $100....some more than others.

GLWS. I wasn't really looking for overpants, but this was a good deal on some good ones if anybody is.

Its tough to find good riding pants, IMO. Being a total gear whore Ive bought and sold a number of different ones, including Klim and Aerostich GoreTex, but my all time favorites for non-mesh pants are my very old and tattered Olympia Ranger 2s.

We wore these along with our AST2 jackets when going cross country a couple Augusts back. With just LD Comfort shorts under, the Ranger pants feel as comfortable as jeans, but have nice cargo pockets on the thighs that I find convenient. Like all Olympia pants, they are extra long, which is good for me at 6 foot 2, and with only Velcro closure on the bottom 5-6 inches, can be hemmed to length if you are shorter. They come with a pair of quilted nylon pants that look and feel like jeans for wearing under.

They can be a tad hot in July and August, but the convenience of having waterproof pant on at all times while touring along outweighs being a bit sweaty in the late afternoons. With a pair of fleece sweat pants and the quilty liners under they are good to well below freezing.

But... (there is always a but) when I tried to replace them I found out that they changed the cut and construction on the newer Ranger 3 model, and those did not fit or feel nearly as nice. Bummer. Sold them off at a loss. Several other pants models later I was able to track down a seller on eBay (bike shop) that had a pair of new-old stock Ranger 2s left in my size 38, so I snapped them up and gladly paid full retail price of $195 to get them.

If you can find them in your size I highly recommend getting them.

PS - I just checked on eBay and there are a few pair still available in size 30, 32, 36, and 40. Guess I got the last of the 38s.

John's got it, and thanks for the tip too, buddy. Just got home from a few days out of town (by car) to find my new Klim Latitude pants in a mailing box waiting for me. Haven't done anything more than try them on yet, but they look like just what I was looking for. Good deal from Alex, too, BTW.
