The newer/lower mileage the bike that it comes from, the better. Hoping for a decent price on one from a member parting out a bike. Mine is getting fairly close to failing... so, looking to have one on hand when the one in there finally takes a crap.

Pretty sure someone already scooped that up. Also, looking for one that's been in a bike that has less mileage than mine. My bike just broke 94,000 miles this past weekend.

My starter hasn't failed yet... but has clearly offered the signs more than once that I'm going to need one. I figure it'll be time for it when I'm running around bump starting the bike.

The starter from Mike's bike is available and you can't beat the price - let me know if you want it. Cheers.

If the one from Mikes bike doesn't work out I have one on the shelf that has been gone through and is ready to go. I would want 75.00 and your old one so I can go through it and have it ready for the next person that needs one.

Lol damn! well, these offers are just a touch too late. Bummer. Just bought one from Fleabay from a 2003 that had 18,000ish miles. Cost me just a touch more than FJRays deal. Shipped to front door is $89.00. Much better than the other ones that were showing up on there. Ya know, I looked at this thread before going over there, too. Major bummer.

I have yet to have one apart that needed more than a good cleaning. The brushes don't seem to wear much and I haven't had one with a bad comutator. I clean them up in the lathe and make sure the undercut is correct , lube where required and put it back together followed by bench testing. I find some that draw a lot of amps before and around 20-30 when done. Anyway I have one ready to go and another core on the way so If it's ok there will be a couple avaliable. As long as the core is good the 75.00 covers an hours labor and cleaning supplys.

I sure wish that I had known about this before I pulled the trigger finger. Now, I will need to find someone competent to put it in for me... because I think this may be a little beyond my mechanical abilities.

I "think" that a pictorial already exists on this procedure. Not positive, but I think so. & there's a good chance that I will not be present when this work gets done. I will take pics if I am. I'm going to start looking for someone to do this work. I may just have it done of the "August too hot to ride" month.
