Finally got a chance to ride my 07 with the WarmNsafe 65 watt jacket liner with the Dual Star heated grips in cold weather. I have the VStrom hand guards. I made a 70 mile ride at 70+ mph at 32-34 degrees. I wore my TourMaster Transition jacket over a light shirt and First Gear HT overpants over fleece lined jeans. The jacket liner and heated grips were turned all the way up. After an hour I was generally warm and comfortable, my finger tips were cold and starting to hurt and my feet were getting cold. The 65 watt liner was great. This ride would have been miserable without the heated gear. If I had to ride significantly longer I would wear another layer or two.

My volt meter was showing 13.5 volts so the 65 watt jacket liner and heated grips turned all the way up are at the limit of reliable continous current draw.

Day late dollar short….. aka, another post I discovered much too late…….

There is just way more information on this Forum that I can decipher….and digest.

How did you wire your grips ? Red & white or blue & white, if red & blue to controller they will be to low.

Would the 100 watt liner have been any benefit ? You could turn it up past 65 watts, to get warm, then turn back down.

What is the lowest you can run the battery ?

First off I guess I don't know nuttin. I just had to sort thru various opinions.

From what I gathered from this and other sites the lowest sustained volt reading that I wanted to see was 13.5. Lower might be okay but I don't want to test it on a long trip. I am not too crazy about 13.5 and prefer to see 13.7. My digital volt meter jumps around as the heat controller cycles on and off so my guess of voltage is the average of the bouncing up and down.

Maybe the 100 watt jacket liner would be good for short use at full power or steady use at full without the heated grips. Might be nice to have the extra heat margin, haven't needed it yet. Doesn't really get that cold in Florence , SC. However whenever it is cold enough for a heated liner I want the heated grips. So the 100 watt liner wouldn't be much use to me. For me the 65 watt liner and 35 watt heated grips are the perfect combination. I have yet to see how it will work when my wife has her heated liner and heated gloves. I think we will have to do a tag team thing to determine who and what gets warm when. I am sure we won't both be able to use full power full time.

I wired my Dual Star heated grips per the directions using the Dual Star switch. One position is off, one is low, and one is high. The 2 settings are good for me, wouldn't want high to be any higher and the low setting is comfy most of the time. Oh yea, my directions had the high and low reversed, Dual Star said, "opps, we know, sorry bout that." Don't remember the wire colors and everything is under heat shrink or plastic now.
