2014 part is 72 dollars at parts shark... takes two minutes for install

I agree with Kenny to a degree, but with this main caveat: Yamaha notoriously is tough on covering anything, so I would have expected an argument, and possibly that it would not be covered.

Did your dealer imply that they thought it would be covered?

My initial thought, like many guys here, is why let the dealer do anything so easy when you could get the parts online much cheaper and take 15 minutes to fix it yourself (and get to first base with that hot mamma, and bond a little with her) unless of course they lead you to believe it would be covered. (The only way I'd let my local shop touch my 09)

Well , I would have fixed it myself if I could, it beat me, I spent 2 hours+ trying to get the dash out. So instead of more frustration

I took it to the dealer, after waiting another 3 weeks plus for Yamaha to deliver the part. (shortage?)

The dealer told me the repair was not covered , I had to pre-order the part , secured with a C/Card.

Instead of more hours on a FJR battery cover , I spent them on a custom made Paddock roller starter for my AHRMA bike

made using a very large truck starter as a drive mech.

Sooo...anytime a manufacturer comes up with a better design, they should issue a recall and incorporate that design in all previous models for free? That would be cool! :)

I have a dishwasher that for the most part is great. However, the silverware rack has a minor, frustrating flaw that I wish they would redesign and offer to sell to me as an upgrade. To expect them to give it to me for free would be completely unreasonable, IMHO.

Well "20Valves" , imagine being on the side of the road in the middle of night or out in Utah in the heat on the side of the road, and trying to get the the main fuse or dead battery. ever been either ? are you sure you had a early 2013 Upper cowl ?

If it takes a Yamaha Tech at the dealer 15-20 mins to get to it in a nice shop , that's a issue I wanted resolved.

What if you had just purchased a new auto and it took 20 min's and daylight to get to the fuses or battery ? would you be happy ?

Cutting up the original part is not as good as the new design.

I purchased a new bike with a warranty so I would not have to work on it.
It's a crappy design, and I think Yamaha should pay to fix it. That said, although It's a good-will issue, and a moral issue, and an issue about which Yamaha should be stand-up, it is NOT a warranty issue.

I think Apples and Oranges. This was a mid-year change to fix something that was an obvious oversight on the initial design. Is Yamaha obligated to fix it. Nope - its not safety related issue. Should they - yeah - It's the right thing to do.

I'm still trying to vision what made this much of a problem?

Been in my battery compartment a few times, once to install a battery tender tether but that was on my '09. I can't remember that it was that hard but... the compartment/location had 2 major flaws IMO...

1. Access for jumping was not a click-up of the seat like I was use to, so a Build Motorcycles Weird? rightttt!)

2. WTF do you want that heavy of an item way of axis like that?

Hope it works out for you however, good luck.

I've considered that question once or twice (you might also ask "why up so high?"). In the end, being the trusting sort that I am I conclude that the Yammy engineers must have had some good reason. Maybe it's positioned to the right to counterbalance something else (maybe the COG of the engine isn't dead-centre or something like that)?

Top_speed1, it's was a problem, the panel Will Not come off without taking the dash and other parts off . On my 2007 it took

a few mins and a little wiggle, easy to do on the side of the road.

If'n you had purchased two $16,000 + dishwashers from the same vendor, you might maybe have wanted them to be nice and

fix the issue , and to keep you buying their dishwashers.

Unless you have a early 2013, that was not used for a few months and you needed to charge or get to the battery, and could not.

and then wait over a month to get the part and have it fixed, you just are not feeling my mental state at the time. I am now

recovered without to much therapy at my favorite behavioral Psych office.

So THAT'S why there are no motorcycles parked outside a shrink's office - their patients couldn't get their batteries charged up! ;-)

At $16K+ I hope your dishwashers can do 0-60 in about 3 seconds flat...

I completely agree, it'd be the right thing to do, but still not a warranty issue. Unfortunately we live in a world that is profit driven, not necessarily based on what's right or wrong. :(

Do you have YES?

If so you might try removing the Battery Access pannel and just happen to break it.

Once broken, file a claim with YES. You might get lucky, you might not, but you won't be out any more than you are now.

A friendly service manager can get it covered, but, if you have already pissed off the service manager where you bought the bike you might try somewhere else. Oh yeah, don't go in with a chip on your shoulder, eat a few slices of humble pie before you try this.

' Catch more flies with honey..........

The service manager is ok with me, I was a nice guy at the Dealership, I made a few faces , paid them , and was handed the

old part. (Since I paid for it) , done deal.

That place was full of flies-salespeople in the showroom,

Too few years left in my life to have my blood vessels burst over this issue. I got the replacement part for my '13, put it in, and a great peace washed over me.

Aaaaaaahhhhhhh

Looks like we beat the tar out of this topic. As for filing a complaint with NTSB, that will not generate a positive result. There is no safety issue here. Perhaps what really occurred was a man who builds custom motor bikes took on a task that he was confident he could perform. When the going got difficult he went after the source,Yamaha. We amateurs tend to go to the FORUM for answers. If we are still not satisfied we even ask if someone could post pictures or a video. I speak for myself here as an amateur.

Finally, take Eric's advice and buy your parts from PartShark.com. or a non dealer vendor They are at least 40% lower than the local stealer!!

I have 10 thumbs and can get to the battery in under 10 minutes.

I have done it 3 times to install accessories, next time will be to replace the battery.

Some people need to chill out and realize life is good with what they have.
