Just wondering about this right now. I only use my bike for trips to the mountains, and due to the altitude issue (pretty severe in my case), I couldn't use my bike for about 5 months while waiting for a fix, which culminated with a new ECU.

Do any of you think it'd be worth my time pursuing an extension of the warranty? If so, I could contact the same guy we did for the fix, no?

If not, no biggie, but with only 12 months of warranty, I hate to lose 5 due to a defect, especially with the low mileage I'll have when it's over. Thank you in advance for your comments. Best wishes for the new year gang, especially health.

General consensus is: for $380 (D&H over the phone) for 4 yeays piece of mind is a no brainer

Yep, I'd have to go there if I hadn't already. 42K miles later and mines nearly up without having had to be used.. the peace of mind was priceless on several cross country trips. Not that it would have saved me pushing her home while the repair parts traveled on a slow boat from Japan.

Thanks folks. Even though I've never bought an extended warranty for anything, it might make sense for this bike at that price since it's a keeper. Will have to search for that place and read the fine print. I'm more interested in time than mileage, as I don't ride much; hope there's a choice of plans. Thanks again.

Guys their info is readily available here, but just in case you still can't find it here or Yamaha dealer list on their web site their number is 256-739-1840 or 877-3-yamaha

JC,

I think where you were going is having Yamaha extend your basic warranty because your bike was unusable?! AS long as you have it documented you might try contacting them, but don't hold your hope up.

For less than $100 per year the YES program from D&H is a no brainer. The warranty also includes towing allowance and hotel (trip interruption) and unlimited mileage for 4 more years . I already used it on my 06 when the ignition switch failed. They paid for my towing, the temp fix in NC and then the real replacement in RI. I could have fought with Yamaha to get it fixed but this was much easier. Also, this is the one farkle that I believe increases resale value. D&H # is 1-877-392-6242.

Yep, but it was unusable to me, not unusable at all, since I only use it for trips to mountains, and couldn't be ridden SAFELY there. I know it's a long shot, but guess doesn't hurt to try. A courteous phone call is all it takes. Will post my results Monday. Take care.

It never hurts to politely ask.

Having said this, if I were the Yamaha CSR and someone told me that they couldn't ride their bike at all because of this problem, I'd probably dig in my heels and do nothing because it sounds like an exaggeration. So, as a strategy, I think saying that this problem caused you a lot of trouble and aggravation during your first five months of ownership would be enough for them to pony up five extra months of warranty. In fact, I'd iinstead simply ask that they provide you with a 3-yr YES for free - I bet they might do it.

As Mark said, it's worth a try to pursue, but don't get your hopes up.

As for the partial thread hijack.................

The Yamaha extended warranties (Y.E.S - Yamaha Extended Service plan) come in year increments (up to a max of 4) with no mileage restrictions. So with the max 4 year addition, you can get up to 5 years worth of unlimited mileage warranty for your FJR - as many around here do.

The 4 year Y.E.S. I bought from D&H for $389 for my 04 FJR paid for itself when at 4 years old and with 110,000 miles on the clock it covered over $1200 worth of repairs - new cam chain, tensioner, guides, and replacement of a weeping final drive seal.
