Warranty

seems like a negative for the fjr.

I'd much rather get a "free" 3 years than only 1 year and have to pony up hundreds of dollars for a longer period. since most people keep their bike for more than a year it looks like a way for Yamaha to advertise a lower price knowing they'll actually get more from most new bike buyers.

I can hear the sales guy now "... and it only adds $12 a month to your payment....."

We get a 2 year unlimited kilometre warranty in Aust, but we do not have any extended warranty available from Yamaha.

Ditto here in the UK ('cept ours says unlimited miles :exhappysmiley: ). Not needed it, though.

I'm now out of warrenty, but could go for a 3rd party "insurance" warrenty, but to me they are a rip-off.

Well my ST1100,ST1300 and Goldwing came with a 3 year warranty...plus you could add 4 more years for about $350.00 so you had 7 years for $350.00. That said I don't really understand why Yamaha only gives a 1 year (of course I bought the FJR anyway).

You missed an important point: No warranty is "Free". They have just opted to include the cost of that warranty in the base price.

To my way of thinking, it would be better if all bikes came with no warranty at all and that you then purchased as much or as little as you wanted.

That way, you would know up front what it is really costing you.

To bikemiser: If the warranty was such a big deal to you, perhaps you should not have bought one that was outside of the manufacturers warranty and not coverable by YES. Of course, you should have paid less for that bike than another one that was still in warranty. Either way, you have to do your homework or you'll fail the test.

To keep the price below the competition. When there are comparo reviews, one of the main themes is always how the FJR is a great value because of the lower price.
