Washing my new beauty

I know this may sound like a stupid question: any tips for washing this bike? I've always had cruiser or standard bikes so they didn't have much bodywork. The FJR is nothing but bodywork. Lots of little cracks and crevices. So what's the best way to clean her up? :scooter:
I only wash mine if it is DIRTY. Meguiar's sells a "Speed Detailer" which you spray on and wipe off. I use it every where I can spray and access with a terry cloth rag. Turtle was makes "ICE" both as a spray detailer and a wax. Both make the bike look really fine. I use neither on gritty, dirty-dirt type stuff you get after a rain or such. Don't recall the brand at the moment, but there is one in clear bottles a wash, and a spray, both saying that they are a "Nano Wax" both have blue liquid inside. Also work really nice. I probably only wash my bike less than four time a year here in NC. Rain happens.

I was in San Jose, CA until May '07 I know rain doesn't happen there from April/May to October/November, I'll bet I NEVER "washed" the bike during those months!

After I wash my bike I always start the engine and let it get up to at least 3 bars and run for several minutes. I have had trouble starting my bike when my grandson assist with the water spray.

I use traffic film remover on the front end, screen, fairing front wheel and suspension, leave it 1 minute, power wash off ( carefully not aiming the jet washer at bearings ). This removes alot of crap without rubbing.

Then I use a general bodywork soap all over, pressure wash off and and then reapply soap.

Time for a soft sponge to remove the stubborn dirt. Rinse with low water pressure. Take for a quick ride to dry everything off.

Apply Scottoiler F365 to everything except the brake discs and tyres and seat. I use a cloth soaked with F365 to apply to areas which need careful application.

Done for a few months

Andy

Some lik'em clean other's lik'em dirty....
Just hope the dirties don't apply the same theory to their undies....
One of my Buddies got this brand spanking new "Busa a while back. Sweet Looking Bike! :clapping:

He hasn't washed it ONCE!! We all went over to his place to Hang and drink some beer.

Somehow, It turned into a bike washing party (With Beer!) :clapping: I couldn't stand to see that pretty busa just sitting there Filthy! :dribble:

So I decided to at least wipe the busa down a bit. I went to his rims and I needed a chisel to get through the caked on Mong on the rim!

I think he must walk around with skid marks in his shorts! Not Sure!! Just Sayin'

I washed mine recently for the first time since I've owned it (2 years). I thought my wife might like it clean when we went on a 2-up ride in the glorious Texas hill country.

But after it was clean, all the nicks and scratches in the paint showed up. I didn't like it.

From now on, I'll just wipe the bugs off the windscreen and lights and keep riding.

Good Thing is!! You'll still be riding an FJR!! :yahoo:

I was a professional detailer in a past life. Let me save you about a million hours on your washing...

Now put 2 gallons of water in the pump sprayer, then 1-2 capfuls of the optimum no rinse solution. Swish it up. spray it on a panel at a time (or the whole bike if it is cool, the idea is to not let it dry). Wipe the dirt off with the microfiber cloth in your left hand and then dry with your right. You will never need a hose again. I do this about every other ride and people think my 03 is a new bike.

This whole process will take you 5 minutes maximum.

I even take a little handheld sprayer full when i travel. Works great for cars too. You use MUCH less water so it's more eco friendly, hug a tree whatever.

Search on youtube for a video example. If more people used this there would be more clean bikes out there.
