Welcome to Washington state. $63.75 for plates and then tach a $129.75 RTA tax on a four year old motorcycle. You almost have to be Bill Gates to live here.

RTA Tax:The RTA tax is an excise tax of 0.3%, which means it is calculated based on the value of your vehicle. Your vehicle’s value, for the purposes of this tax, was set by the state legislature, and is not based on the fair market value. The laws that set the value of the vehicle are RCW 81.100.060 and RCW 82.44.041.

As a privileged capitalist patron owning an almost new bike you can surely afford the few extra $ out of your pocket to finance extra metro buses to sleep, **** and dope in for all the needing folks from the streets in Seattle.

I just hope the insurance rates for the bikes will remain low now that the motorcycle insurance becomes mandatory.

I have never understood why Washington motorcyclists were exempt since motorcyclists are certainly capable of being the cause of extensive injury and property damage and I have always carried high liability limits on my motorcycles. However the most important insurance a motorcyclist can carry is Underinsured Motor Vehicle which essentially is insurance to protect yourself against ******** who do not carry insurance on their vehicles and that insurance is much more expensive than the liability insurance I carry on my motorcycles to cover the damage I might be responsible for. If everyone actually had adequate insurance like the law and common sense dictates, the cost of that insurance would be much less for motorcyclists than it is now since the expensive Underinsured Motor Vehicle (in theory) wouldn’t be required.

Requiring motorcyclists to carry liability insurance probably will not have much impact on the cost of Underinsured coverage but it’s a small step in the right direction of actually requiring all licensed vehicles to have insurance.

My car tabs were way more than my bike tabs last time I renewed (Seattle)...as far as insurance goes, I had not heard about this becoming mandatory. I'll keep my $75/year liability only I think...and hope for the best. In my 20+ years of riding I have never had a close call (or an actual call for that matter
