I bet a horse hurts more than a deer…

A 71-year-old man driving a Harley-Davidson™ motorcycle collided with a horse-drawn cart and its 10-year-old driver Monday on Missouri Route F about two miles east of Jamesport.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol indicated that the motorcyclist, William D. Sutton of Chillicothe, Mo., sustained moderate injuries and was flown by helicopter to Research Medical Center in Kansas City.

The accident occurred when a horse pulling a cart, driven by 10-year-old Solomon J. Schmucker, became spooked by the loud exhaust on the 2002 Harley-Davidson™ motorcycle driven by Mr. Sutton and pulled the cart into the path of the Harley-Davidson™ motorcycle. The driver of the cart and its two passengers were ejected but were un-injured.

I thought the “V-Twin thunder” was supposed to send animals scurrying and running for their very lives. In this case, it looks like “Loud Pipes Cause More Than Hearing Damage.” :D

Aw....the harley "hater" comes through again. Stupid horses. Why is it we don't eat horse meat again?

Not necessarily a "harley hater" odot....just look at him as a concerned party possibly with money invested, in that proud dinosaur of a company :good: ....looking out for his fellow FJR brothers financial portfolios......(or not :derisive: )

Don't hate'em Odot. I was hoping the strike would be good for The Motor Company™. -15% drop from the high apparently says a few other people don't think so. But the dividends keep coming! As I have said before, I laugh at them on the road, love'em in the portfolio. :yahoo:

My nephew lives in Idaho and hit an elk with his jeep...

Now that would hurt on any motorcycle!

I have heard of people slicing through a deer. Hitting it in the "right" spot at the "right" speed. I think a horse has a little too much mass for that to take place. The height of a horse also makes the collision even more frightening for the rider as the bike may slide mostly under the animal while the rider takes the brunt of the force. One event I hope I never have the opportunity to experience.

Friend of mine rides a springer softail. He's hit a couple of deer, a turkey, and a dog. Hasn't got a horse yet, will have to tell him to get to work on it

I see you haven't been to McDonalds recently.
Bru Ha Ha Ha! They had a news diner detail, more about rats and their dropping contaminating the kitchens 'Fine Cusine'.

Well IMHO he only was doing something only slightly less stupid than dragging a Buffalo carcus into the Lions den. It's the responsibility of the overtaking vehicle to pass safely. It was probably a good time to declutch instead of conjuring up a backfire fart. TJ
