Water In The Gas?

My new '04 FJR was really smooth & the 600mi TBS helped slightly at idle. It's been uncanny smooth with the very smallest 4 cylinder inline vibes from 73-77mph. The other night I noticed for my ride home from a class (50mi on Hotlanta Xway) the vibes from 73-77mph had gotten much worse. Not as bad as a Connie but not normal. By the time I got home I was considering a "Unauthorized" TBS or possiably adjusting the balancer gear backlash. Next morning gas was on 2 bars so before hitting Xway, filled up & guess what---Super smooth again. I've had water in the gas before on other bikes but it produced a stumble on them. Check to see that tank vent lines are clear, they have a bad habit of plugging and causing strange issues.

Mine has around 11,000 miles on it but it is starting to cup really bad. I will change it very soon if the cupping keeps getting worse and unbearable.

The rear was changed not long ago due to the flat spot with no tread left in the middle.

I had a similar experience last summer. My '05 started to feel a little different, inrease in vibration and maybe a little less power. My first thoughts were that maybe the front tire or wheel bearings were acting up until I realized that it started just after filling the tank. The problem went away after that tank was used up and fresh fuel was in there. Not sure it was water but there was something wrong with that batch of fuel.

Wow! Very impressive De!

I finally replaced my front Avon recently. 18,400 miles on that poor piece of rubber. It was toast. That was unusual for me. Don't usually get that many miles on a front.

Several gas rules to live by.

1) Buy name brand, whether it be local or national. (A name means protection, as in the costs of a bad rep outweigh any potential gains from a cheap load of no-lead)

2) Buy from a busy station. (Movement means freshness, and less moisture etc as the tank gets stirred often)

3) Do not buy while a tanker is in the lot. (See #2-you don't want to fill while the tank is being stirred-wait till next day if at all possible)

In case you guys wondered, I pump 10,000 gallons a month, not scaring Chevron by any means, but enough to know.

You'll enjoy your ride a whole lot more after you get rid of that tire. I don't want to start another discussion about which one to get but that bumpy looking tire is way past it's useful life.

Sounds typical of water in the gas, or a bad mix of ethenol. But I would also check that overflow hose for clogs as mentioned by radman. Good thing to do at least once a year anyway.

If this happens at the end of this tank, some Isoheet (gas dryer) won't hurt, just follow the mix instructions to remove any residual water in there.
