Before work this morning, with temps in the 60's, I decided it was a good day to scrub the nubs off my new PR2s. I waited till I thought the Bambi's were done scaring OM :eek:and others and headed out on 132 toward Coulterville. Absolutely beautiful morning with no traffic, light winds and twisties ahead of me. I stopped in Coulterville to drop of some work related mail at the Post Office, thanked & chatted with a couple in a newer Mustang who had pulled over to let me by earlier on 132. I noticed the Hotel Jeffrey is still not open, but supposed to be any day, so tell all the swashbucklers the bar should be open by the 4th. Heading South on 49 I opened up the beast a bit and began the "task" of scrubbing off those tire nubs. Not a bit of traffic going my way and only passed a couple of cages going North with road conditions just about perfect. I stopped for a few pics and visited the Mariposa CHP office, (no, not to turn myself in), to let them know of a loose bovine north of town that could ruin somebody's day, if it stepped back out in the road, near the blind curve he was wandering around on. I gassed up on Cathey's Valley and WAS going to head home on Hornitos Road, when I saw the loose gravel/fresh oil signs. I had just spiffed up my baby and wasn't about to get oil all over her so instead I took Indian Gulch Road and beat the hell out of her! It is one of those roads where it starts out decent, then pavement gets scosh then the road narrows sign appears and about that time you check the odometer to figure how far you'll have to endure this crap if you decide it gets too rough and turn around. I'd ridden this road 5 years ago and my how time does cloud ones memory of how lousy the road surface is! I came across the intersection at Slate Gulch Rd and with the graded dirt looking much smoother than the broken asphalt I was on, almost took it, but wanted to get back and start work. I vowed to get the dual sport out and re-explore these roads as there are plenty to play on out here. Got back after a couple of hours of messing around taking pics, soaking in the quiet and even got some work in later. Awesome way to start a work day, I need to do this more often. (disclaimer - all photos were taken with full face Shoei on so not all are the quality what I had hoped for). SPOT route

Always wanted to see this rock up close, it appears to have a greenish hue, but always see it at about 65 mph.

Yep, green alright. Anyone know what this is? Being a local I should know, but I'm not a rock hound.

If OM or Tom were with me, I'm sure they would've made me climb up the mountain side to get the entire curve in one shot! As it was, I had to hurry as they only had one lane open and although they had no cars waiting for the other direction, I didn't want to wear out my welcome.

Great pic's and ride report! Love the Trabbuco story. You beat the weather, on the northleft corner of the state thru the center, Rain, all day long. Glad you took the time to have a ride!

Aasland - I tend to agree it is oxidized copper, couldn't find a picture that was exact, but fairly close, thanks.

DC - Thanks. That there is part of the infamous "Little Dragon" just above the Bagby area 10 mph hairpin. Come on up, I'll show ya to it!

Thanks for the RR!

California, here I come, right back where I started from. . . (Wow, those lyrics from that

song really give my age away. . .)
