A question for those of you that have the WeeStrom. If you were replacing the bike and the cost was the same for both bikes.

Would you buy another WeeStrom or get the bigger motor?

Or is there another bike you'd look at?

I had both bikes in my garage for a couple of years and decided to keep the 1000 because it had better suspension (cartridge forks). Motor wise, the 1000 has 40 percent more torque, the 650 turns 40 percent higher rpms (at any given speed) so they feel about the same. I liked the bigger motor but the 650 is smoother and gets better gas mileage.

I have a Super Tenere on order and am looking for a reason to keep the 1000 because it is really a lot of motorcycle for what I could sell it for.

Wee. Less weight = more fun for the riding I do.
+1 If your going use the Strom for it's intended use. Or if I could have a Strom to add to the garage with the FJR.

Out of the box smooth. Just add ergo, cargo, and protection farkles.

If your replacing the FJR with a STROM? Road use, or 2 up. I'd go Vee.

No, the FJR will always be in the garage. I'm looking for some light off road, dirt road. Maybe a trip to the great north.

Both Stroms suffer from very low ground clearance. If you're intending to ride nothing more challenging than 2ndry dirt roads, all is good. The first sign of ruts, rocks, or single track will have you in misery. Trust me, I know. Within those confines, the Wee is WeealyWonerfull.

That's rougher terrain than my Wee ever saw, and you still had factory blinks. I found out about flush mount replacements week 1 of ownership!

Carver.. How did you feel about the ABS considering you actually pushed the Wee in an off road enviroment?

And that dirtnap is why I went with a KTM 690R. Gotta figure out if you want a dirtbike that can go on the road or a road bike that can go off pavement. Had a GS 1200R, what a pig off the pavement. Wouldn't even think about taking it where the wee is taking a dirtnap. Now, the KTM, BRING IT! Nothing like a 100 mph dirtbike!

That is what prompted the question. I would think the wee lighter for off road, yet the 1000 better on the long haul. I've also been considering a bmw gs 650 or a klr. All have plenty of farkles available and can be found used for a lot less than what the stealers want.

Then I saw the ad for the Tiger cub. Hmmmmmmm.

If you're looking @ BMW, consider the 800GS. Big enough for the road, little enough for the dirt.

80 hp gotta be good for something fun, and nobbies keep it going thru the soft stuff.

There was another HOT thread on this forum, IIRC, the Super Tenere thread, that talked about ABS and dirt. Make no doubt about, ABS on dirt sucks less than hind tit, it sucks dick. Completely useless and it will put you on your rear after you hit the object you should have easily braked for.

He doesn't have ABS on his and there is a switch you can get from Eastern Beaver to turn off the ABS.
WABS (Weestrom + ABS), named by TwoWheelNut, (his former bike) is definitely ABS. And I now have the anit-ABS circuit onboard. Intersting side note - once the ABS is disabled, the bike must be shut down and restarted, with ABS switch in 'On' mode for the CPU to recognize and re-engage ABS - meaning if you turn ABS off for the dirt, then come across pavement, you got to shut down and restart.
The Wee taking the dirt nap above is an ABS (or someone slapped the ABS sticker on the fender).
Correct.

Very, very true. Then again, I can do SS1k's all day long on the Wee and be comfie. And, I can do *most* dirt roads within confines previously described. This whole dirt/road thing is constant continuum. My yz426 is a better dual sport than the KTM, the KTM is better than a Wee, the Wee is better than a..... well, you get the idea.
Back to OP question - the Wee is a great little bike with rock reliability and won't let you down. It's basically a street bike with dirt bike garb. I run TKC80 knobbies and have been wondering if a set of XR600 forks and swing arm would fit?

The KTM 690R is a must have bike on my agenda - within the confines of it's dirt orientation, of course.

MohaveFJR - you need to ride that bad doode out to Creston when I get my ATK fully back and running. I'd seriously consider selling the ATK and another bike or two for what you're riding - cause I have the dirt itch, bad.

I quit cause I was really sick from food poisoning, no one knew where I was, the canyon was getting narrower and narrower, and I had that 'oh **** what am I doing' moment.

I never owned a wee. I sought out the manlier version because of the weight. Or i should saythe lack of difference. The DL650 weighs almost as much as its big brother (within 50 lbs). Considering the difference in available torque, it was a no brainer for my 6'2" 215 big self. For the little fellers out there I'm sure the wee is plenty good. I'm really happy with my Vee. At around 500 lbs, it's not a dirt bike, but it's a real good street bike in the dirt. And its a pretty darn good street bike on the street too.

I love yah like a brother Fred, but *another* 50 pounds on a fat girl is unacceptable.

It was all I could do to lift the Wee off the ground, (I had bad food issues the day before). I can run all day long at 80 on the Wee - but if 2 up, for street, the Manly Strom is the choice ride, no doubt. But if you want to start playing in the dirt, that 50 lbs counts.

Wanna go play?

OK. More questions. I'm gonna asume that motor is almost indestructable, but. How old is too old with this bike, and what problems should a guy look for. The wee, that is.
