Just noticed today

If I turn handle bar all the way to the right, the engine trouble light goes on and an audible sound is heard and stops as soon as I turn the handle bar off the stop point...

What the heck is that all about???

Is the noise your starter motor spinning? That has happened to me when I turn my bars all the way to the right and my tank bag hits my starter button.

Yeah, what he said...
Guess that's possible, was sort of worried that the bag will do that...so the starter is spinning, but not cranking the engine? It was a whiny sort of noise...

If your not sure its the starter. Repeat the full turn but do it without holding the front brake. Starter won't spin without the brake being held. ;)

Sounds (your words, that is) like an ignition wire being trapped and getting power to the fuel pump?

In any case, check all the wires around the steering stuff for trapping, movement, tightness or whatever.

Thank you to this forum! I just got a Givi T489 tank bag a couple days ago (btw - love it, just the right size). I also just today had my back tire changed. I rode about 50 miles home from the dealership (with tank bag on) and as I pulled into my garage, the engine trouble light came on briefly and I heard a sound very briefly at the same time. I was thinking that it had to have something to do the tire change but I decided to do a little search on here and came across this thread. BINGO! I realized that I was turning hard to the right at the time in the garage and the tank bag does contact the handlebars. Luckily these Givi tanklock bags have a fore/aft adjustment. This forum is great!
