Hi All,

I need to have a very small welding job done. I have a post

that's part of the Scott's damper assembly that needs to be

welded to the bike. Would rather work with someone that's

been recomended vs. leafing through the yellow pages.

Feel free to drop a note: st4gary at hotmail dot com.

Regards,

Gary

st4gary,

A word to the wise...

I just had a frame tab welded and can pass on the information that you should have a welder certified in aircraft to weld to your aluminum frame. That should be listed in the yellow pages ads for the welder you want.

dobias,

Thanks for the advice. This is on a 2001 ZRX1200, old style, steel tube

frame. The bracket is also steel. Still trying to find a friend of a friend

that might have a rig.

I've always had good luck with muffler shops for small welding jobs. Aircraft welders will just try to sell you Amsoil :D

Call the local Honda dealer and ask them who they use to do the re-welding recall on the Gold Wings. It took someone certified in welding 7XXX series aluminum to weld the frame on the wing, and had to be done in a 3G environment and be able to stand up to quite a bit of scrutiny by Honda, NHTSA, and the owners and dealers.

I thought this was gonna be another of those Lincoln vs Miller threads, and get dumped into NEPRT in no time.... :D

ok radman -- i use a miller econo-tig. there. that ought to start things off.

Gary -- watch out when you ask if a welder is 'certified'. there are many certs (different metals, different welds...). a guy certified on steel plate, may not be able to weld aluminum pipe very well...

Hi All,

Thanks for the comments and emails. I've finally tracked down a friend-of-a-friend

that has quite a shop at his house and is willing to do this for me. I'm told that

he's quite proficient so I think that I'm in good hands.

Regards,

Gary
