First ding on my Blue Photon. As I was walking the bike out of the garage this morning to do the pre-flight, I rubbed the right bag against the garage door frame. Got a 2 sq. in. swatch of white paint on the bag. P!$$ed me off  . If you look at my recent post in Ride Reports for Shady Valley, you can see the white spot on the front of the bag in the pic I posted.

When I got home from my ride, I carefully wiped the area w/ a cotton cloth soaked in mineral spirits. The white paint came off pretty easily but left some scratches in the bag. Is there any way to buff these out w/out making matters worse? The scratches are not deep.

I seem to do the most damage to my bikes while the engine is not running. The solution may be to NEVER stop riding.

Er, these may not be so gay after all, eh boiths?

And did you notice that the 'bumper' (or rub strip) never takes the hit? Why is that, I wonder...

Polishing rouge willl take those right out without damaging the clear coat, then wax. It also works great at getting that yellow crap off of your car from cottonwood trees. We have lots of those around here.

Yeah, yeah, I know. But I put on sun screen and never run with scissors... What can I say? I hate dings and scratches. ;)

Oh, no... they're still gay, trust me.....
I'm sorry, but I gotta side with WC on this one ........... sorry bro.

But WC, where do you get all those smilies, your killin me.

Oh, they're gay, gay boy, ultra-supercalafragalistic gay, look up gay in the dictionary, theres that pic gay, ride that thing in Friscos Boy-Toy parade (near you, isn't it?) gay, trade in the leather thong for a hamster(felching, anyone?) gay. And thats pretty damn gay. :airkiss:

Oh, and by the way, you ain't the only squad leader any more, gay boy. :D

synonym see LIVELY

- gay·ness noun

Welcome to ruling cast, you 'mo. :****: :pilot:

Because of the potential problems brazos parker has experienced this is what I do:

1. Remove side bags before garaging bike

2. Cover side bages with bubble wrap

3. Store side bags in wardrobe (is that closet in us?)

I sure keep them wrapped in "cotton wool"

You've got to be careful with auto/moto bras. If they spend alot of time in the sun, they will show a fade line in the paint eventually. That, in my opinion, would be worse than a small scratch or ding. If you know you're going to ride on gravel roads, then maybe, but definitely too gay for me.

Got this saying off of the other forum - don't know who said it, but resonated with me.

"Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in

one pretty and well preserved piece, but to skid across the line broadside,

thoroughly used up, worn out, leaking oil, shouting GERONIMO!"

I feel the same way about "Lucille," get a ding, fix it best you can and then go out and get another one! Gotta admit the dings piss me off - but what the hell.

:coolio:

Back to topic (briefly!)...

Novus polish works well. #3 followed by #2. If scratches are deep, try wet sanding w/ 2000 grit prior to polishing.

Find it on ebay.

Don't fret, brazos parker. There's a superstition that the "moto gods" won't let any new bikes or helmets go unscathed for long. If you get one of these little scuffs, that will appease them, and they will be less likely to cause you the more serious, horizontal pavement rash.

Feel better now?

Anyone else familiar with that notion, or am I just a crazy FNG?

Could be worse, you could drop it taking it off the centerstand at a gas station like I did... only cost me $150ish to get it repainted (both sidecases actually, had dropped it to the other side in my garage previously).

Those aren't the only bras that will leave a fade line......Sanitized for your protection....

I agree, but work patiently to avoid making the damage worse. The paint on this bike is basecoat/clearcoat - so there's a layer of relatively flat looking color with clear laid over it to bring out the shine and depth. You DO NOT want to buff or sand through the clearcoat. I'd avoid power buffers, just work by hand and keep an eye on how it's going. If you see blue paint coming off, it's too late. I'd start with polishing compound, and only go to wetsanding if you're desperate.
Oh and TWN, I'd rather polish my bag for a week than put those funny undies on.<---Have fun with that one!! :haha:

Very nice ANTVQ... but which do you ride more the FJR, or ... um.... the other one... :dribble:
