Well I waited for the NYC motorcycle show before I made my decision. Was disapointed in BMW, in my opinion they are ugly and after owning 3 of them I don`t think I`ll go back, if it doesn`t look good the rest don`t matter.

I finally got to touch and sit on the FJR and was pretty pleased with it, it was comfortable and fit good.

So I ordered one today with a top box , heated grips (some BMW comforts you can`t give up), and the extended service program.

I don`t know when it will come in and I don`t mind if it takes a while, cause I still got the Duc and I`m not giving that up, at least not yet, or until my wife finds out about the FJR. I know she will be more comfortable on this bike, maybe I can convince her that the FJR is ours and the Ducati is mine.

Who knows? Time will tell!

I think that someday I'll own a BMW motorcycle. I'm fond of the GS series, though they seem to get uglier with every new model. I may end up with an old airhead.

The thing that would worry me is the maintenance expense. I've already got an M3 convertible (1999-E36) and while I love it, it's like having an ex-wife. "More money, honey." BMW = Break My Wallet.

I may buy another one when this one dies, but I'll never buy another BMW convertible.

And before I get a BMW, I want a Ducati. :) :D

Welcome to the family Stvec. I think you made the right decision, although I am (we are) slightly biased. The BMW's are nice bikes, but I was unimperssed with their performance vs. price. The FJR is a comfortable ride with lots on performance!

Waiting is the hardest part, even with another bike to ride.

See you on the road somewhere.

When you get your FJR, it would be interesting to get your input on performance and comfort compared to the duc and bmw. I have a friend who has a duc, he said its great on the curves, but would not be able to ride LD. Plus the $800 1st service done on his bike really turned him off to the duc. He just put down a dep on a 06 FJR, so I guess my bike impressions got to him.

Give your friend a call of ya would and ask just what kind of service does someone have done on a new bike that cost $800 freaking dollars?

Inquiring minds want to know.....

Start showing her ride reports from 2up couples...not to highlight the FJR, but the amount of fun that can be had as a married couple riding 2up around this great country of ours. I have posted quite a few 2up photo adventures. Sherri and I love riding together. I wanted to share the experience with her, but now I have found that it's more about the fact that I enjoy having her with me.

just an aside piece of advice...stop making major purchases without discussing it with the wife first (anything over $500)...just my advice.

EDIT: Congrats on the purchase. I know you'll love it.

Hit the New York show to stevec. The new BMW's keep getting more ugly for sure. I'm from CT, hope to see you on one of our upcomming rides.

Here's the perfect solution. You get to keep your Ducati, yet prove to your dear lady wife what a perfect gentleman you are. Give the FJR to her. She will be comfortable on it, and well able to keep pace with you and your Duc. If you do other sweet things to please her, she may let you ride her FJR now and again.

Having had 2 Ducs I must say they were fun and amazingly fast for a mere 75hp, but both rapidly became a PITA. If one was on non stop curves the saddle on my 900FE was perfect, but as that's not the case around here...ow.

My '03 FJR was plenty fast enough, good handling and with a Corbin and bar risers very comfy. Unfortunately in the 70s she got warm, 80s she was just plain HOT! Goodbye FJR. However, the lasting impression was of a VERY capable road bike with one big flaw. Hopefully Yamaha has really "fixed" this and my on-order '06 will be with me for many enjoyable years to come...if it ever gets here! Where is March anyhoo???! As my screensaver since last Saturday sez: waiting sucks Bigtime Absolutely DFO

I'm with you Double Entendre; had a BMW 328is, and the thing "nickled-and-dimed" me to death (actually I wish it were nickles and dimes instead of the hundreds and thousands I spent on it...... ). Finally said "adios" and went with the Honda S2000. Wife drives an Accura. Guess what - no problems!

Made me think twice anyone suggested a BMW bike --- went with the FJR, and never looked back. I believe the Japanese engineering is the best in the world (IMHO). I'm interested in riding, and not repairing.... ;) Jay
