Nice, very nice but... It's too big... Fortunately that gaz does not cost so much to your side of the Atlantic ... And this kind of car/truck is really not usable in France. My biggest car is a 407 break (peugeot ) with only a 2 liters engine diesel (164 hp).

Good drive
I think the photo is fooling you here. The Ranger is not a full size truck. Specs show a width of 69.4 inches....your 407 lists a width of 71.3...your car is wider. ;) It's a six foot bed, so the length isn't that big either, wheelbase nine inches longer than the 407.

indeed, the footprint of the ranger is not so big... but the engine... wahou... In USA, I had rented a buick enclave, very comfortable car. But every time I parked with me, I told that its impractical in paris! Yet it was also much smaller than a F350

@mcatrophy

Nice peugeot collection... For me, it was only a 306 grd, a 405 break grd, and know the 407. and in the middle, 2 renault (modus and clio), and a skoda. 406 coupe is a very nice care, thanks to design of pininfarina!

My post was also directed at mcatrophy...As the Ranger I hear was quite popular in the UK.

The word "impractical" did amuse me.... By many ways, my Miata is considered an "impractical" car to many..... ;)

But luckily here in the US we love huge motors. Gas prices are up to $2 a gallon, but even if they fall back down, I'll still be taking the bike or the Miata for my 80 mile a day commute. :)

I was always in the case of needing a truck and not having one. I bought a '12 F150 Supercab 4WD last year with the Ecoboost V6. I average around 15mpg, but have gotten near 20 on the highway. I love having the full size, but do wish that they'd bring the Ranger line back...in bright screaming yellow....

Miata is considered an "impractical" ??? why?
It's a little fun car. I had some friend with this car. it's an European car size. :)

407 has a footprint size close to the ranger footprint , but here, it's considered as a very tall car, and often I have some difficulties to park it. It is longest than many parking space. And the cost of gaz is prohibitif for this king of engine (more than 6.5$ per US galon).
Of cour if I can, I prefer a 350 big bloc than a little 2 littres. I realy love V8 EMI engine. But it's cost for every day is just impossible for me. But if one day I live in noth america... Maybe one day...
The most important is to have the car suitable to your needs, and your pleasure.
France is a little country (by it's size) so we haven't the same specifications for a car, and it's normal.
I do not try to launch a debate about, it's just a cultural difference.
Our German neighbors have yet another vision of the car that is the legacy of their history (after the war) with big robust and powerful sedan car with engine in very good yield.
Italian, yet another vision ...

Bref, jolie voiture

At the risk of a virtual punch in the face, by definition my FJR is impractical, as I would suspect it is for many forum members. I don't need it. It has cost me thousands of dollars since I purchased it, in forms ranging from gear, farkles, hotel rooms, restaurant bills etc.

Yeah it gets better gas mileage than my truck, or the Mazda I had when I bought the bike.

Sometimes it's the impractical purchases that bring us the most joy. When I use my truck, I think "man am I glad I picked this up." When I'm not using it, I still love it.

Difference is, I wouldn't shed a tear selling the truck.

A Miata is a two seat car with nearly no cargo capacity, a soft top (so not great in the winter, and is a roll-over safety hazard), gets only so-so mileage... so yeah, it is definitely impractical.

Just like all of our FJRs!

Well my Miata has the power retractable hard top, so the cold isn't an issue, but being a rear wheel drive that don't weigh much, it's not that great to drive in the snow. The trunk does actually hold quite a bit for a tiny car, but no, you can't load it with sheet rock or 2x4's. It of course only seats two. It's hard to get in and out of, tires are hard to find, and it's compactness makes it hard to work on.

I can get about 28mpg...which really is not as good as some cars.........but it wasn't built to be a efficient fuel sipper, it was built to be Fun. :)

Of course that was my point, the term "impractical" is subjective. I see folks driving HUGE SUV's to work everyday, (by themselves), their kids are off to school, they never haul anything more than a few bags of groceries...it sucks gas as bad as some trucks......so I'd say that's "impractical" in my opinion.

Lessee - £1.10 per litre (average sort of price price for regular around here)

= 1.10 x 3.785 £ per US gallon

= 1.10 x 3.785 x 1.47 $ per US gallon (£ to $ gleaned off the interweb as I type)

= $6.12 per US gallon.

Even if size wasn't an issue, that fuel cost would make it somewhat prohibitive, at least for me. How many miles per gallon did you say?

Figures reported- 2001 Ranger, automatic, V6 = 20 highway, 17mpg city.

I have not figured my actual consumption yet...

But then in case you missed it, this isn't going to be a daily vehicle. If I use it more than once a month I'll be surprised. Even if it got worse gas mileage, it still would cost less than paying delivery charges in many cases...

What kinda gas mileage does a Ferrari get? ;) An Aston Martin DB9 gets 13/19 ....now that's an impractical car.... :)

Understand the low usage.

Difference with the DB9 is you've already shown a considerable quantity of moolah to buy the thing in the first place, so running costs would be less of an issue. (But I'd love to have one.)

With your truck, you seem to get a lot of vehicle for relatively meagre outlay, so whilst a pauper like me could afford one, the day-to-day running would be painful. But, as you suggest, you're not running it daily; the odd day would be manageable.

Let's see...Trucks: In my entire life, in have never had a period where I did not own a truck, or have one available to me. My first car was a Buick, but I still lived at home with my dad's trucks. My second vehicle was a truck, my third was a 92 Ford Truck, and it's been Fords ever since. My brother had a bright yellow 2000 Ranger Edge 4x4 with the 4.0l V6. It was good for a single guy living in California.

All my Fords have been F150s or bigger and all the V8s. The 92 was a 351, the 97 was a 4.6L, which was ok, but not great, and my favorite of all time was my 99 with the 5.4L. I recently replaced the 99 with a 2016 F250 Crew Cab 4x4 FX4 with the 6.2L gas. With the new truck, I couldn't justify the cost of the 6.7L PowerStroke Diesel, even though, I really wanted one. All my Fords have been 4x4 Off Road Package trucks, since I actually use them for off-road stuff.

The 99 in action:

It broke my heart to sell that truck. Bought it new in December of '98 and sold it on March of 2016. Replaced it with this:

Now, THAT truck would be a ***** to drive and park in Europe. Haha...

ouch, nice (big) truck! and nice engine.

6.68 m by 2.03 m... I don't know the low in USA, but in France, if you measure more than 2.05 m wide, then you consider yourself a exeptionel convoy ... it's just!
