We did the loop clockwise. Getting to the 7,500' elevation around Anthony Lakes in the afternoon was key to heat management, that and the early departure. The Dooley Mountain road was awesome the first time we rode it but the second time there was a fair amount of gravel probably dragged out by the logging trucks we saw. We had a few deer on Dooley and one snake on the highway near Unity. It actually took a shot at striking Mike as he rode by!I can see why that was the favorite ride. If you did it counter clockwise, you start out in the little alps (passing Anthony Lakes) and end going over Dooley Mountain, with lots of those "straight roads" between those.Just Outstanding planning!
If you are not from the area, I recommend getting a Butler Map of Oregon.
