If folks using STM want to create a map of their WFO fun .....and want to share with others, I'll be glad to put a page together that has multiple maps on it ...so that folk can go to a single place to see numerous maps.

Just a thought ....I can show an example later.

It will just be a quick day-ride for us, but I'd hang mine out there for all to see if you're the voyeur type.

Thanks RJ...........

US..... voyeur types........ like to watch.

Lets see who chimes in as it gets closer.......

OK

Go here(CLICKY)

...this is a very primitive example ....if there is interest I'll clean this page up considerably, and best accommodate whatever number of maps we get.

So, let me know, anyone that wants their map here ....just send me your STM map ID# .....if you don't know what this is, just send me the link to your STM map for WFO and I'll get it from that.

Also, if you have website, blog, phone number(s?), rough itinerary etc ......any info that might be of use to those tracking you can easily be put with your map.

Email your STM ID or link to map to: renojohn2007 (AT) goraiders.org

direct link to page:

Ya, maybe the colors might get updated.
Speaking of updates, tcfjr provided his info. Man-O-Man does he have an enviable itinerary. Me wonders if his early start will make his map the first one active.

LDryder is now in the game

.....and he suggested bigger maps so once we get an idea of how many we'll be doing, we'll either make them bigger or create links to big maps.

Now this'd be a hoot, have a tracker on every bike going to/at/coming from the rally, ...all posted top the same map, prolly look like an ant colony on a busy work day!

Note:

For those who want their map on this page, it is only possible if you have your SPOT gadget interfaced with Jason Jonas' STM

Many of us, for many reasons, believe STM is the grooviest thing to come to moto-bikes since the throttle.

For those of you who have not interfaced and/or want more information:

So is that it? Have all the folks who have STM and want to have their route shown -have they all raised their hand?

Hi, I just activated my SPOT I bought 5 months ago. Tried following all the instructions to join SPOT, Fire eagle, STM, yada yada. Read the indtruction booklet... 2 1/2 hours later I think I did everything I need to do. Any suggestions on testing the while semi-confusing "system" before I leave for WFO in the next day or two?

Thanks in advance.

Got your data, but it seems you've password protected your trip. Once you take that off, your map should be displayed. If you have questions, I can likely help, me guesses you're likely finished other than the removing the password protection.

You should be good to go now, posted the map for your new trip.
I see you have it starting on the 28th, if you want to test it, you can go in to STM, change the begin date to earlier, then play with your spot and make sure the data shows up on the map ......and then, go back and change the start time/date back to where you currently have it. Just a thought if you want to test.

Thanks John. I will if time. Right now I'm concentrating on getting work (that pays bills) done, prepping the bike and my gear, etc. can somebody turn the clock back a few hours ;-)

Anybody have a clue why only three GPS "points" are listed on my map? I tried to send 10-12 "OK" messages with GPS coordinates. My procedure was to turn on the SPOT, wait 10-15 seconds, then press "OK" and wait for both LED's to flash together. Then wait a bit and shut everything down. Are other folks having difficulties? Am I doing something wrong? Or is just "hit ot miss" depending on weather, trees, where you are, etc.?

I would say your issue is that you are turning the spot off (why?) The batteries in these things will last the average rider about a season or more. If you're turning it off you're really only allowing it to get confused, it takes it a bit fro it to know where it is on initiation (which is what turing it on does), and it will do this quicker if moving and not stationary. Also, every time you hit "OK" to send a transmission, it sends it three times (i believe 10minuts apart?) in an attempt to help make sure the transmission identifying the spot of when you pushed the button is rec'd. If you are turning it off, it may not even have the chance to send the first one, certainly not the following ones!
Suggestion: Leave the thing ON!! give it a clear view to the sky, and whenever the mood strikes you, hit "OK". I think you'll find you have much better results. Good luck!

EDIT: just checked out the map .....your in my battle born state of Nevada!! what you up to? :)

EDIT #2:

then press "OK" and wait for both LED's to flash together. Then wait a bit and shut everything down
OK, so when you do that you are actually putting the device in tracking mode (are you signed up for tracking mode, and have you done the fireEagle thing?) Even if not shutting it down would cancel it. And, by doing what you're doing you can't send OK messages. You either set the device to track, or leave it ready for OK messages. To go from one to the other you have to make a conscientious effort. I'm probabably making this sound more complicated than it really is ...feel free to email me with your phone and I can call you....john
