What a difference!

I just got back from sitting on a nomad 1600 and a 08 FJR...wow, what a difference! Couldn't test drive due to rain.

Nomad seemed really topheavy, take that back, it WAS top heavy. I wish I could have rode.

I found an 08 fjr with topbox, highway pegs, tankbag, gps(magellan), calsci window, 16k miles, throttle lock, and hand warmers for $9625.00. Seems like a good deal with all the farkles....opinions?

They wanted 10,800.00 for one at dealer, 08 with 23k miles, it had highway pegs and grip warmers.

Seems kinda steep to me. Any goodies included with the bike are only worth 40 - 50 cents on the dollar, keep that in mind when pricing. Lots of FJRs for sale...keep your eyes open and the right one will show up w/o overpaying.

You're comparing two very different bikes here. The Nomad outweighs the FJR by about 160 or 170 pounds. One's a cruiser, one's a sport touring rig. What are your plans for your new ride... what factors are important to you? Concerning price, your farkle value added to the retail looks to be about 7-900. Therefore this bike would compare to a stock bike selling for about 8800 or so. Do you want all these farkles? You could always consider selling them on the forum if not. All things considered that 9625 price seems about 1k high to me. After all, it is a 4 year old machine. Just my opinion. Judging by the date of your post you may have been up at Stadium Yamaha in Irving Texas for the demo truck. I was out there on Friday and managed to finally get some seat time on an FJR. The clouds parted and the sun decided to actually shine and I want out in the first ride group of the day. Ok, so aside from the two escorts, I WAS the entire group.

I too think I'm sold on the FJR. It's not worlds better than my current FZ1, but there's some obvious advantages the FJR brings to the table. Now it's time to start making some decisions, shuffling money around and possibly selling by beloved FZ1 bee. We'll have to see what the next couple of months bring.

I also think it is about $1K too high but that is just the asking price, right? If you are considering you may want to take a look at the maintenance record and tire condition as determining factors before making a serious offer.

Do you really have to sell the Bee? I kept the FZ in the garage when I ponied up for the FJR and I love having both to them. Its let me focus the FZ on the sportier end of its use rather than making all the compromises of trying to make it pull long haul duty.

On a whole different track, I've added a YZF600 since then for my son to ride - fun to have a light little scooter around but after 15 minutes I'm reminded why I'm not relying on a little rice rocket for my daily commuting :angry2:

I sold my 06 Nomad and bought an 08 FJR. Nomad was the most comfortable cruiser I've ever had (and I've had 5) without any mods. I loved it. That being said, after riding the FJR, I will never go back to cruisers again. It's that good.

Lots of people go on big trips on this bike all the time. However you kind of sound like your leaning towards a cruiser. Do what makes you happy.

The wife and I did a 2700 mile trip last summer. Camped all but two nights. Two up, tank bag, a tail bag for tent, sleeeping bags etc. It was comfortable for the long miles but fun in the mountain roads. It is a bike that works for us.

I think the price is a little high as well by about $1000 to $1500. I think they are priced high so that you will feel good about the purchase after negotiating for a reasonable amount. I would not be surprised if you bought it for $8000.
