My liability only policy with progressive is 90 a year, and adding the FJR was less than 90. They give a discount for multi-bike. I was thinking of adding comprehensive.

Just out of curiosity, are these prices for liability only, or full-coverage? (just trying to compare US prices with Dutch insurance rates)

Just finished getting insurance quotes for my `05 1300T through Progressive in Pennsylvania. Even with the deductibles maxed out, full coverage was just under $1,000 per year. Dropping the (w/ $1K deductible) collision coverage would save $550 per year, bringing coverage into the $400 range.

I talked to our insurance agent, State Farm, on Friday for the wifes' 06 on order and was quoted $393.40 for full coverage and $500 deductable. We're in NE ILL.

What insurance company do you use, and what classification of bike do they list the FJR as.  I've had two insurance company tell me any bike with and "R" in the name is listed as a sportbike.  I promply ask about the harley "Roadking" at that point.  They don't laugh... an akward moment.
I'm looking for an insurance company that doesn't classify the fjr as a sportbike, or someone else with my insurance company whose fjr isn't classified as such.
I use Dairyland. Since 10/2002 they have listed the FJR as a touring bike (OEM hard bags) "just like the Kawasaki Concours and BMW R1100RT or K1100LT".

That's how I described it to them the first year (before it was classified in their books). When calling someone about insurance be sure YOU'RE the one to plant the seed and send them in the direction you want them to go. Leaving them to wander around and find references to "SUPER SPORT touring" is just asking to be ass raped.

100/300/50 for full coverage and a 250.00 deductible +$3000 in accessories before needing a rider.

$550 the first year.

$450 the 2nd.

$275 this past year.

i wouldn't have geico on a bet. i used to have them for years and they make you fill out forms asserting you don't have a radar detector. if it's ever revealed that you do (even in a vehicle they don't cover) they drop your insurance without paying anything under the claim that you made false statements in your application. they have been known to provide radar detectors to police departments. they specify that they will not cover a claim if you ride in any organized event (that could be read as even a toy run or poker run). they will deny coverage on a ride of longer than 500 miles in a 24 hour period. they may be one of the companies that only covers the rider (and no coverage at all for a passenger). on and on.

I've got GEICO. Less than $300 per year. Standard coverage with exception to my declining Uninsured Motorist. (It only kicks in for medical, after my health insurance has maxed-out.) -In Alabama.

One BIG in$urance difference here in Pennsylvania is whether or not you elect to have FULL TORT or LIMITED TORT coverage. In basic terms, you can sue for more money with Full Tort, but the premiums are considerably higher. Most people feel paying the extra is well worth it, especially considering the possible outcomes in a motorcycle accident.

The old saying is you "have to pay taxes and die"

...nowadays, add "pay taxes AND insurance" to that old saying!

Our medical insurance goes up 10% a year, but that's a different topic for another board and thread....
