I can't make heads nor tails out of what the hell is going on in AMA Pro Racing, but it appears a massive upheaval has occurred over the weekend that might have some far-reaching implications.....

Recall a couple weeks ago, the AMA Pro Racing CEO either quit or got sacked.

Then his successor was fired on Feb 8th.

This weekend, the AMA dissolved the entire AMA Pro Racing Board (!!!!!), replaced it with a bunch of "committies". :blink: :blink: :blink:

In response, American Honda (a major player, it seems) resigned from the AMA's Board of Directors.

What in the HELL is going on here?! Sounds like a bunch of political bullshit to me, but again, I can't make head or tails out of this shit!

Same shit that ruined IMSA, CART, et al. Can't be good. Leads to a gaggle of separate series from the debris of the 'parent' series, all of which will suck.

Well, I can't say I was ever a big fan of the for-profit Paradama thing. I think keeping AMA Pro Racing separate from the AMA as a whole could have worked OK, but it should have stayed non-profit, with all dollars collected by AMA Pro Racing kept and spent there to promote and improve the sport.

As a biker's rights organization, the AMA has historically done a good job. As a racing organization, they have essentially sucked dogshit, just in varying degrees at various times. I worked at some of the Superbike events, and watching them go through their decision making process (if one could call it that) was almost funny.

This new deal? Just another form of the joke the AMA has been perpetrating on racers and fans since, well, for as long as I can remember. The AMA should stick to amatuer racing, if anything at all. The best thing they could do for their members is to get out of pro racing management, and stay out.

Now only if Hewlett Packard could learn to quit trying to run their company by consensus. Really, the fact that consensus = poor leadership is not a commonly known thing. It is amazing how few people in high positions defer to the consensus rather than simply making the right call and moving forward. People are chicken shits. Leaders are rare. Damn... that is big... I'm not on the "inside", but I've heard the name "Vanderslice" as being instrumental in AMA's racing endeavor. I'm just hoping AMA gets out of the "for profit" efforts.

To my knowledge the AMA has never made money through their pro-racing efforts. They do not publish financial reports that allow this to be clearly explained. The organization had a board of directors of whom 50% are reserved for manufacturers. The dues paying membership does not control the organization and may be subsidizing the ama pro-racing effort.

Pro-racing was supposed to be a seperate organization from the AMA but it seems to be run by the AMA.

The AMA may have a strong future as a sanctioning body but will probably never take the pro side of motorcycle racing to to the heights a for profit franchise may.
