Military. Few years left. Get 30 days a year off. Can take about 15 maybe. Have 90 days banked. Give back about 15 a year (unpaid).... again.. days. Not hours. Try to take more but I have a specialized job. Sorta a strange issue to have in the military... But it is what it is. Can't wait to have all those retirement issues you guys have. Wife works a ton. Only gets a couple weeks off a year. Usually spent riding... mostly with you guys. Planning a 5000 mile solo trip this year (end of may) Can't wait. I agree. Work to live, not live to work.

I am a traveling PA (product analyst) for all the beer brewers in the world. Nobody listens to me and I haven't been paid a dime for my work but I have fun and set my own schedule. Drinking on the job is not only allowed, it is required. I work for myself, and I get to have sex with my secretary.

Currently I am doing an in depth analysis of Warsteiner Premium Verum in Germany.

I want your job! Is your secreatry hot?

I started a little real estate investment company a few years ago with some partners. We invest in apartment complexes in different emerging markets around the country. Luckily some of those happen to be in some great areas to ride in.

We just acquired a property in Greenville SC and the goal is to get an east coast bike to have there so i can ride the Dragon and all those great roads when I'm in town.

In the meantime if there's anyone back east that has a spare bike and wants some company riding let me know. We have properties in Huntsville and Birmingham AL. as well.

Last Summer I sold my 03' in Seattle and bought an 07' that needed some work in CT where i grew up. I was able to work on it at my Sisters and stay with her while back there. My wife flew out to CT and we rode from CT to PA for a family reunion then on down Skyline DR and the Blue Ridge Pkwy to the Dragon. Made our way to Nashville and hooked up with my business partners and had a good ol time on music row one fine saturday night in July. The wife flew back to Seattle from there, I went down to AL and worked on some of our properties there for a couple weeks, then rode home to Seattle by myself and kinda made up the route as i went.

This year we are looking at riding Yosemite, Glacier, Yellowstone, but i'm going to have to WMAO in the meantime to buy myself the time away.

It only took me 20 years to figure out how to get to this point.

Best post ever! This has been archived for future generations!
+1, Gunny; Good Work, flyball! Even though I'm fully retired from the Construction Trades (Pipefitter), I've remained in Private Practice as an Amateur Gynecologist!

Worked as an industrial millwright at a local aluminum refinery for 32 years; took retirement when they closed the place down. Currently working as a mechanic for a local company that sells and services fire, booster, and sump pumping systems. After spending the week in D.C. traffic, it's a real treat to get on a bike and go where there's nothing but empty back roads. I ride the Blue Ridge Parkway at least twice a year and have done so for the last 14 years. People I'm currently working for are great about letting me take off unpaid on a few days notice.

Fascinating to read all these posts. I'm in my 6th year of teaching intensive reading at a middle school. It's my fourth career. I started a weekly Bible club at the school as well. In addition, I'm working with the ABC club at the same school, helping some of our poor families with food, clothes, Christmas, Thanksgiving, and school supplies. On the weekends, I run a bus route at a local Baptist church and teach Sunday school once we get all the munchkins in church. They love getting rides on the Feejer. So, riding involves the 40 mile round trip to school most of the time. Looking forward to the summer. Am planning a vacation on the bike but not sure where. Should be fun. It will be my first. My other bike is a Toyota Camry Hybrid. It doesn't get quite the mileage that the Feej gets, but 40 is good enough... especially with gas prices so high lately.

I've always wanted to take a ride on the Blue Ridge Pkwy on the Feejer. Hope I get to do that this summer. Any particular part of it better than another?

Show up at the Wheatie campout and you'll get plenty of opportunity to ride the Blueridge. The campground is right off one of the exits.

The best section, reputedly, is the south end from Asheville south. I say reputedly because that is the only stretch I have not ridden. :dntknw: I will ride it this year in May.

It's all good but i did notice that Skyline Dr was a bit faster and smoother than BRP. Must of used different engineers for the two roads or something.

Anybody know?

Its all good! Wish it was closer as its been some years for me, but being part of the National Park System, its is crawling with speed enforcement rangers. I remember passing one going south as a buddy and I were going north, but the Fiat Spyder following us with the ladies was not so lucky. Skyline Drive has very predictable radius curves and excellent pavement. It doesn't get much better.

A few years back, I realized that the pursuit of a larger bank account is way over rated. After receiving a package buy-out from my job running a Research and Development department in an automotive tech company, I decided to focus on enjoying life and spending time with my daughter. Since then, I've bought and sold properties, designed and built some custom recreational structures, and acted as a Recreational Assistant (kinda like and Executive Assistant, but for fun stuff) to guys with way more money than time. This has left a lot of time to Ride, Golf, hang out at the lake or go to Mexico.

Oh yeah, Divorce was instrumental in increasing my free time!

Unfortunately, my Personal Finance Manager tells me that I need to increase positive cash flow... or plan to die early.

Look like a return to office life is in my future.

My advice, be prudent in planning for your future, but enjoy life NOW!

Skyline Drive and the Blueridge Parkway are very different and were designed by different people. Blueridge is a lot more fun to ride and is free.

Here is some very interesting information about the Blueridge provided by Scoops.

I'm now going on 16 years as a network engineer with a major wireless provider. Before that, spent 5 years as a field engineer installing Tandem mainframe systems at newspaper publishing companies in various locations around the world.

Been a good ride so far.

"Can you hear me now?"
