Wife and kids have been at Myrtle Beach since last Monday and the plan was for me to leave home at 0300 on Friday morning to ride down from Northern Virginia to visit with them for the weekend. I've been traveling for a few weeks, so haven't rode the bike in about 3 weeks. Was working perfectly fine 3 weeks ago. Friday morning load the bike up and start her up. She sounds a little sick, coughing and wheezing. Notice the lights are slowly pulsing a little. Thought it was just because she hadn't been started in 3 weeks. Give a little throttle and it helps some, but she dies on me. Start her up again with some difficulty but dies again. This happens a few more times and then I give up. Thought it was the battery since it's over 4 years old. Not going to be able to change it at 0300, so I get in the SUV to drive down instead.

About an hour and a half into the trip down I95 I'm cruising in the middle lane, no one around me, when BAM!, WTF???, and some serious vibrations from the front of the SUV. I start to pull over and it goes away when I apply brakes. Luckily there was a rest stop just ahead so I pull in. After searching for a half hour for the cause of it under the front end I notice the driver's side front tire is missing 2 lug stems. The 3 remaining lugs were loose. Not getting to the beach like this. Tighten them up and limp back home to hopefully get a new battery for the bike and get to the beach.

Stealerships don't open until 10am, so get a battery at 8am from a local store and installed it. Nope, same problem. Cranks rough and even whistles a little and won't stay on. Crap! What now? Wait, didn't I get a recall letter for the wiring? Yep. Hopefully it's only related to that problem and nothing more serious. Stealership can't get to the bike until tomorrow, so will have to wait and see after delivering it.

Called the wife and kids to tell them I wouldn't be making it. Kids were looking foward to me coming down, even if for a few days. That was not a fun conversation to have with my 6 year old daughter. :sadsmiley02:

Bummer dude. I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but if you have been spyderbit, or have suffered a fried wiring harness than they are going to have to replace it and last I heard around here, that will take a few months to get the part.

At least you are alive and healthy.

If your Lo Buck Auto Rental car with a weekly special had a problem the rental company would repair or replace the car and get you on your way. Heck, a battery that didn't fix you problem cost about 2 days worth of rental. I'm thinking you may have made a fourth error by not renting and missing the weekend with your family.

Maybe you have a bad tank of Gas? Add a little Sea Foam and some gas from a mobil station (No slugg gas fron the lacal cumberland farms ect. )

Well, the dealership came by last Monday, 8/1, to pickup the bike for the recall. Got a call Wednesday morning saying they completely replaced the wiring harness and she was ready for pickup. Get to the dealer that night and go to pay for the tow to the shop. Nope, dealership wouldn't be charging me for the tow since it was a recall.

Guy brings the bike around and I go to ride home. Bike won't stay running, idle was lower than 500 rpms. She keep stalling. No way I'm getting home with it, so they keep it to look into the problem. Got a call Sat. afternoon that they fixed the problem which was a broken vacuum hose. Will pick her up tonight and she how she runs. Been over 4 weeks since I've been on her and I've been experiencing some seious throttle withdrawal.

Also fixed the wheel stems on the truck so that's running now to.

Don't worry, front forks will start leaking and rear brake will start hanging causing an abs light to come on.

...and nevermind the rash on the knees from the burning hot exhaust gasses.......

The forks are starting to seep a little already. Will have to work on them soon.

She purred like a kitten in heat on the ride home, no problems and things were a lot smoother all around.

Wife and son were following me home in the car to make sure I didn't have any problems. Went on some back roads and started into the twisities. My throttle withdrawal kicked in and I punched it good through the turns and had a blast on the way home. I knew I'd get an earful from the wife at home, but didn't care at the time.

She finally pulls up as I'm unloading the bike and sure enough she lays into me. "Don't you ever, ever do that again....without me on the back of the bike" :yahoo:
