50 mph deer strike.

Slid 30 - 40 ft. I remenber watching the asphalt pass under my face shield as it ground into the chin guard.

I was wearing a leather jacket. deerskin riding gloves, full face helmet, blue jeans, and textile high-top hiking boots.

I lost about three square inches of skin from my right knee, broke three ribs.

The helmet was ground well into the foam on the right side, the chin bar was almost gone. the shield was gone in a trail of bits in the road.

The jacket was abraded on the right shoulder, the right arm and part of the waist webbing. I restained the jacket had the waist band repaired and still use it from time to time.

My boots were worn where the ankles are - one on the inside -one on the outside - no blood, no damage to me.

My gloves[ which took the initial impact ] showed NO damage at all .

Bloody hole in the jeans.

I rarely wear jeans any more. My boots are now leather.

When: 2005 EOM; somewhere off the Parkway on Friday afternoon.

How: Rider #3 of 6; coming out of a left hand turn, up over a steep rise in the road, hit a patch of oil from a cage that must have bottomed-out; going about 30 mph; rear tire slid out of alignment and shimmied like hell; tried to keep control but coulndn't.

Low-side and slid on the right-side of the bike about 30 feet.

Shuberth full-face - scratched visor.

Aerostich with hard armor - the 'Stich has some slight cosmetic discoloration but survived well.

Marsee track gloves - ripped the seams but the gloves protected the hands.

ATGATT = only 3 broken ribs - but rode home to Michigan on Sunday after the meet (biked looked like shit, though).

O.K., I've cross-posted this topic over at BARF, so with over 20,000 members, it should provide some additional input. Stay tuned!

25mph lowside downhill (slid farther than would have on level ground):

Slide on my side/front for several yards. Marsee textile mesh jacket - elbow pad shifted and textile melted - nice rash on the arm - thumbs down for Marsee textile mesh.

Levis - Ripped knee - nice rash. Did better than I'd expected.

big fat leather belt (from Nordstroms?) - probably saved my hip from severe rash. Still wearing it 3 years later

AlpineStars leather gloves - Fared very well.

Wolverine work boots - ground down to the steel toe.

5mph knock-over when a minivan didn't check the rear view before changing lanes from a green light:

Vanson leathers: Still can't find the scuffs. I'll be buried in these, thankyouverymuch.

Crashed twice in an Aerostich 2-piece...the second one caused some tatters but did not get through the material, but it did render the jacket unrepairable. I ordered a new suit at a 20% discount and had some alterations that make the suit fit a bit better. If the cost to repair exceeds 50% of the replacement cost, aerostich considers it totaled and won't repair. But a local expert tailor is looking at the suit...he charges less than 'stich does and can fix it for about $200, so I have a backup suit now.

Each crash scratched up a Shoei, so I trashed them, don't want a compromised helmet on my head, and wouldn't pass them on to another rider either.

The Gerick gloves did their job fine, and the Sidi made Aerostich Combat Touring Boots got a few scuffs but protected my feet and lower legs as designed so I still wear them (they need re-soling now, I keep dragging my big feet in the corners every once in a while).

One crash gave me a separated shoulder, but not a scratch or bit of rash, the other just pissed me off. Both crashes were due to rider error...mine :(

The bikes (1-FJR, 2-ST1100) were damaged but I rode 'em home...

Joe Rocket Leatehr Jacket (I forget the exact model)

A* Track Pants

Sidi Race Boots

Heild Gauntlets

Arai Quantum 2 helmet

I bounced off a couple trees doing about 40. Good thing they were small ones. Joe Rocket leather jacket survived the crash with minimal dammage, same with the Track Pants. No dammage to the gloves, boots, or helmet. Neither the pants nor the jacket survived the paramedics tho  I was flown out with a broken collar bone, broken shoulder blade, 3 broken ribs, and a lacerated liver. Nice vacation in ICU for 6 days. I believe the CE armor in the shoulder of the jacket lessened the dammage by quite a bit. B)

EDIT: I ride in a 'Stitch now :p

I'm in

Just the most recent.

XT600E Winter 2006 Julyish

3 lane highway 80Km limit.

(in Australia so I'm on the left side of the road.)

Late at night, Raining. Light traffic. As I come up to a section with a slow right hander than a left hander I notice the normally very bright street lights are out. As I'm midway through the first turn (Right ) I also see a 60KM sight and slow down I then see this new mini entering my lane directly beside me pushing me across my lane. I look to my right, the mini goes heavy under brakes.

Looking forward I see ROAD WORKS (no signage bugger), The next corner, a slow right is now a sharp right. Get the old XT down it starts to slide. Off the rear brake but it grabs and high sides.

Over I go at about 60km/h.

I managed to land on my belly, right hand under the right handle bar.

Just as I stopped the Mini caught up and ran my right leg over.. FFFF@@@@. it wasn't nice..

Gear.

Shoei Helmet, no damage. Didn't hit the road.

Dry Rider gloves with armor. Survived OK but ground the armor of the right pinky therefore mangled my pinky a bit. (it grew back) They did their job, I had the weight of the bike on my hand for a good portion of the slide.

RJays armored jacket. No damage. bit of scuffing on the front and right shoulder.

Only had jeans on. Right knee was nasty.. (yep I know)

Boots just leather ankle high. The took a lot of the grind when I realized what was happening to my knee I pushed down on the boots . They pretty much wore through.

The nasty one was from the Mini. got a nice friction burn on my right leg which resulted in specialist surgeon etc.. Took 5 weeks to get that leg in order.

The bike $150.00 2 hours work, and she was back on the road. What can you really break on a chooky.
