I'm curious, did you try licking your finger & placing said finger to mark & make rubbing motion? This is the method that I use. Real cheap, too. Sometimes the magic spit is hard to come by, though.

FWIW... not sure if it has already been said... cleaner waxes are abrasive. Lightly abrasive... but they are abrasive. If I were you, I'd use cleaner wax sparingly & only as often as you really need it.

I love your first suggestion and it was actually the first thing I tried.

I keep many good waxes but none have removed so I am going in with the 3M. When all else fails this stuff will remove the marks. I am really considering some of that clear stuff once it is off so I do not get anymore scuffs. I have been one 2 10 days trips so far over the last 3 months and I am slowly working up to a 30-day trip. The hard part is getting the time off from work but I will do it.

Quick Update: I got the 3M rubbing compound in the week and it came right off. I tried it on the pipe too and it cleaned right up to better than new. I will not run out of this stuff again.

I have a polishing compound that is specifically for taking marks out of clear plastic windshields. It is a pasty liquid that smells like Comet cleanser and has a white appearance with a slight green tint. I bought it at Autozone a few years back when I was refinishing another bike and need to try to salvage a rough windshield.

This stuff will take off boot marks. You're not supposed to use it on clear coat painted surfaces, but a very light touch appears to do no serious damage. I put some boot marks on my FJR when it was new and I was getting used to the bike. I used this windshield polish and then I followed up with a coat of Mequire's wax/cleaner. It worked great.

I am now doing my level best to avoid adding new boot marks so that I don't have to see just how many applications of the windshield polish will lead to a dull finish on my saddlebag. A good wax coat will go a long way toward making subsequent boot marks easier to remove without resorting to serious abrasives.

Incidentally, the forum's search function won't accept two-letter (3M) word searches.
One way around that issue is to enter the following into google when you are searching.

3M site: www.fjrforum.com

You can also limit your search even more 3M and clear film site: www.fjrforum.com

It will only search the website you tell it to search and I use this feature all of the time. As for the question about the film, I would like to know too. I have been doing longer and longer trips with the wife and she is kicking the cases when she gets on and off at the end of a long day when we are both tired after riding. That film is a good idea!

I am in awe of your search-fu... You are indeed a Master! :assassin:
