Mine is usually on two except if I'm stopped it will go to three but I never have seen four.

Some have seen 5, also displayed on the display at that point is a little pic of a motor with the going price at that moment.

I've never seen 5 bars. I think if I did, I'd pull over. The aux fan has probably died or something.

Another dumb question: Is that the water temp or the oil temp on the LCD?

If either temp gets over 5th bar, doesn't that mean the oil is breaking down? I have considered the max temp that auto oil can tolerate was around 240 F?

Water. Synthetic oil is good to about 380 degrees before breakdown begins, Dino much sooner, around 240-280.

Edit:dino temp changed to reflect reality rather than my half *** memory... <_<

Roger, Radman. Thought it was water. Sounds like I'm a little low on my oil temp expectations. That's good. A bit too conservative.

Thanks for the graphs, too, guys!

That little light with the silhouette of a engine came on the other day. Searched as I might, I could never find where they put the V8...

Edit: Thanks Rad. I just love it when technical articles contain such words as 'critters' in explaining stuff. Now, if the author had included pictures...

2 bars is normal for cruising even in 90 degree heat, 3 bars in stop and go traffic and 4 when I’m stopped at a light. I only have 530 miles on the fjr so take that for what it’s worth.

MPG was 34 on my 1st tank of gas, 45 on the 2nd and it looks like it’s going to be just under 50 for this 3rd tank and I haven’t ridden with the bags on the bike yet because I’ve just been on short trips cruising the local back roads around San Diego having some fun.

My favorite line from the Oil article...

within 3000 miles. If you have one of these new 4-stroke MX bikes you should be running a synthetic. Some of these MX bikes hold only one quart of oil, all of them have marginal cooling systems, and if there's a more severe use of an engine than MX, I don't want to be physically present when it happens.

Getsum, if you're getting 50 mpg on the feej, you need to get a Burgman or go to WFO Throttle skool. :D

Yeah, I was pretty surprised at the mpg myself but that's what it worked out to. Probably won't last but I'm hoping it stays around 40ish for the easy freeway driving to work and back.

Mine was like that. 48 mpg That stands for MoPinG along. Once I got more "spirited", the mileage went below 40. Money and fossil fuel well wasted!

Most I ever got was 52 mpg on Hwy 88, north of Yosemite. Fine, fine road for constant near triple digit speeds...

Never get less than 40 regardless of riding style.

I never get over 40, but I think we're talking about different subjects.. :p
