The previous owner of my FJR has wired a couple of things (GPS and heated grips) into this connector (the one with surrounded by the 15 amp fuses into the bottom right plug):

Can someone tell me what the connector is for, and if the open slot (bottom left) is hot and available for use? -OR- Should I look at relocating the accessories?

Thanks.

The red wire on that connector is hot from the battery. There are better ways to tap for power, though, most notably connecting a fuse block, or at least a terminal strip, running directly from the battery terminal. I think, but I'm not sure, that the red wire is fused by one of those 15A fuses and supplies power to the fuel injection system.

The device that connector is on is the starter relay. The heavy conectors protected by the rubber boots carry current to the starter when the relay is energized by depressing the starter button.

Thanks. I suspect he added it there because he put the switch right above it, and because it seems to be switched. Any suggestions for a good place to tap into a switched hot lead?

if you wish to disable the auto retract windshield movement down when the key is off like me, I just found that plug under the dash and used the switched hot wire there and that's my switch source to my fuzeblock.

see www.fjrtech.com for disabling

or info on finding a switched power wire

and google search: disable retract site:fjrforum.com

I like that auto-retract. For me the switched power comes from the spare horn wire that I got when I replaced my stock horns with loud ones that are wired via a relay. The only problem with using the horn circuit is that my radar detector goes off in LASER mode when I honk the horn.

THANKS!! My FJR already had the auto-retract disabled. Looks like a winter project to add a power block and re-route all of the things to it. :D

Just be sure that you only use that small gauge wire from the auto retract connector to control a relay. It doesn't have enough amp capacity to actually supply accessories of any appreciable current demand.

Ah! Retract wire -> Relay. Power from Battery to other side of relay, correct? What size should the relay be and do you have a good source for one?

Again, thanks.

You can find them at just about any auto parts store. Same as you would use for a set of fog or aux lights on a car.

But if you are planning on buying a "FuzeBlock" brand power distribution panel (Model FZ1), they come with the relay incorporated in them.

Some day I'm going to redo all of my accessory wiring using one of them.
